About The Position

Exponent is seeking an Associate for its Thermal Sciences Practice in Natick, MA. This role involves performing failure analysis and providing design support for complex problems related to fluid flow, heat transfer, mass transport, combustion, and electrochemistry. Applications span various industries including vehicles, consumer electronics, utilities, fire and explosion investigation, power generation, and medical devices. Key responsibilities include planning and executing experimental test programs, conducting fieldwork and inspections, and preparing proposals and technical reports. The role also involves developing test plans, instrumenting and conducting laboratory tests, performing engineering calculations and analyses, and presenting findings to clients. Project work may require travel within and outside the U.S.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related field.
Presently legally authorized to work in the U.S. No immigration sponsorship or processing required.
Strong technical background in the thermal sciences and battery systems (e.g. vent gas and fire propagation, combustion, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and material response in fire).
Demonstrated leadership skills and proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
Strong skills in laboratory methods including the construction of experimental apparatus, instrumentation, data acquisition, and data analysis.
Strong desire and ability to tackle a wide variety of engineering problems within and outside their direct areas of specialization.
Professional Engineer (PE) License or willingness to obtain a PE.
