About The Position

Within Sustaining Engineering, the Thermal Fluids Mechanical Engineer supports the performance, reliability, and serviceability of LiquidStack liquid cooling products, including coolant distribution units (CDUs), by applying heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics. The role supports released products, validates engineering changes, investigates performance issues, and contributes to transitioning new products into production and service. Assignments are performed within a defined scope under moderate supervision, with guidance from senior engineers and engineering leadership. The position owns mechanical architecture for new skidded and modular CDU platforms and other datacenter thermal-management solutions, and leads mechanical design from concept through manufacturing release. It establishes CAD and drawing standards, BOM conventions, and design-review practices; integrates components and systems; and works with engineering, test, and global colleagues to design and validate products. The role also applies relevant industry standards and drives design for manufacturability and serviceability. Travel is 25%. The work arrangement is onsite Monday through Thursday, with flexibility to choose the work location on Fridays based on work needs. The role is safety sensitive and may require additional drug screening.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of industrial mechanical design experience.
  • Experience across the full product lifecycle for new product development, from concept and detailed design through design validation and commercialization.
  • Deep knowledge of ASME piping and U.S. data-center and industrial standards.
  • Experience in HVAC, industrial equipment, or a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with pumps, piping, valves, skidded products, and metal enclosures.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as PTC Creo, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar design platforms.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5), design for manufacturability and serviceability, tolerance analysis, engineering change management, and PLM, ERP, or document-control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Own mechanical architecture for new skidded and modular CDU platforms and other thermal-management solutions in the datacenter market.
  • Establish CAD standards, drawing standards, BOM conventions, and design-review practices.
  • Lead mechanical design efforts from concept through release to manufacturing.
  • Apply thermodynamics and fluid dynamics to pumps, pipes, valves, braze plates, filters, manifolds, and other components.
  • Design and integrate mechanical components using GD&T, CAD, prints, specifications, DFMEA, and validation methods.
  • Apply materials science to design and specify metallic and elastomeric components.
  • Work with CFD and FEA engineers to design and validate solutions.
  • Collaborate with electrical, PLM, controls, and systems engineers to integrate sensors, fail-safe devices, redundancy, and automation solutions.
  • Work with test personnel to validate and test products.
  • Understand and apply ASME, IBC/IMC, UL/CSA, CE, OSHA, Open Compute Project, and ASHRAE standards to products.
  • Partner with the Hong Kong engineering team on global design activities.
  • Drive design for manufacturability and design for serviceability.
