About The Position

Join Hitachi Energy’s Power Transformers business at our Varennes facility, where we design and deliver large power transformers critical to the stability and performance of the energy grid. As the Test Lab Supervisor, you will guide a team of test technicians responsible for validating transformer performance, supporting the safety, reliability, and quality requirements essential to customers across the utility and industrial sectors. In this role, you manage day‑to‑day lab operations, coach and develop your team, and ensure test activities are completed accurately, safely, and in accordance with applicable standards, procedures, and production needs. You will coordinate testing schedules, manage non‑conformities, support continuous improvement, and uphold rigorous quality‑assurance practices. Your work directly influences customer satisfaction and the performance of critical grid equipment, while offering the opportunity to deepen your expertise in transformer testing, ISO requirements, and manufacturing processes.

Requirements

  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in Canada.
  • College or university degree in operations management or a combination of relevant training.
  • Minimum of 5 years supervising staff in a manufacturing or test‑lab environment.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment.
  • Knowledge of ISO standards and SAP.
  • Bilingual in French and English.
  • Communication abilities and leadership skills suitable for supervising a technical team.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of transformer testing is an asset (not a requirement).

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, coach, and develop test technicians to support motivation, performance, and growth.
  • Create testing schedules based on production priorities and track employee attendance.
  • Ensure test procedures, quality requirements, and sections of the quality‑assurance manual are understood and consistently applied.
  • Manage non‑conformities, support resolution, and study quality data to guide improvements.
  • Optimize human and material resources while maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant work environment.
  • Oversee equipment calibration and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and uphold customer expectations for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Lead the hiring and training process for test technicians.
  • Update and maintain skill matrix for test technicians, assign technicians to tasks based on skill matrix.
