Test Engineer | Motor Drives

Texas Instruments•Dallas, TX

About The Position

Test is a crucial part of IC development: engineers identify which device features require thorough testing and where some risk may be acceptable, balancing test coverage against production cost. The role involves substantial lab work, designing test hardware with software tools such as Cadence, developing test programs on an ATE simulator, and troubleshooting test programs or devices. This position is part of a team responsible for testing Brushless DC Motor Drive products for Automotive and Industrial markets, including products using technologies such as GaN. The ideal candidate has experience developing probe and/or final tests for mixed-signal circuits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • ATE experience with Teradyne Eagle or equivalent analog ATE, such as iFlex, LTX, VLCT, or V93k; Eagle experience is preferred and a differentiator.
  • Experience developing characterization test programs and hardware.
  • Experience developing production test programs and hardware.
  • Strong technical knowledge of electronic devices and circuits, and analog test techniques.
  • Data analysis skills using Spotfire, dataPower, or an equivalent tool based on STDF.
  • Experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, sourcemeters, and loads.
  • Experience with product engineering activities such as yield improvement and test-time reduction.
  • Strong understanding of the IC product development process, from concept through volume production.

Nice To Haves

  • Mixed-signal test techniques and experience developing mixed-signal tests on TI roadmap testers.
  • Experience offloading test programs and hardware to TI offshore manufacturing sites.
  • Programming or scripting proficiency in C++, Python, or C#.
  • LabVIEW or TestStand experience.
  • Experience with revision control tools such as Subversion or Git.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with people in different functions.
  • Strong time-management skills supporting on-time project delivery.
  • Ability to build strong, influential relationships.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Initiative and a results-oriented approach.

Responsibilities

  • Identify critical device features that require testing and balance test coverage against production cost.
  • Develop characterization and production test programs and test hardware.
  • Perform lab testing and troubleshoot test programs or devices.
  • Support product engineering activities, including yield improvement and test-time reduction.
  • Contribute to testing Brushless DC Motor Drive products for Automotive and Industrial markets.
