About The Position

The Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) is seeking a Term Consultant for Math/Science. This role involves supporting curriculum development and teaching practices in mathematics and science from Primary to Grade 12. The consultant will ensure appropriate mathematics programs are available, work with school administrators and staff to promote professional development and innovative instructional techniques, and facilitate the implementation of curriculum initiatives. Responsibilities also include managing and evaluating pilot programs, identifying and recommending supplementary resources, liaising with the Department of Education & Early Childhood Development regarding special needs students, representing the SRCE on provincial committees, and providing information sessions for parents/guardians. The position is for the 2026-2027 school year, with an effective date from August 1, 2026, to July 31, 2027. The deadline for applications is June 15, 2026.

Requirements

  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher’s Certificate;
  • Master of Education or actively involved in pursing a Masters in Education degree:
  • Bachelor of Science
  • Major/Minor in Math
  • Completion of advanced studies in mathematics and science pedagogy;
  • Minimum five years’ experience as a mathematics/science teacher in public schools;
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience in leading curriculum workshops and making presentations on curriculum related issues
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Responsibilities

  • To initiate and support sound curriculum development and teaching practices in mathematics and science from Primary to Grades 12;
  • To ensure that appropriate mathematics programs, which are supportive of the Public School Program and curriculum guides and responsive to the needs of students, are available to students in all schools;
  • To consult and work with school administrators and staff to promote and support teacher professional development and innovative instructional techniques;
  • To facilitate the implementation of Department of Education & Early Childhood Development mathematics and science curriculum initiatives with the needs of the Strait Regional Centre for Education;
  • To manage and evaluate pilot programs and field tests of mathematics and science materials;
  • To identify, evaluate, and recommend supplementary mathematics and science resource materials;
  • To liaise with the Department of Education & Early Childhood Development and the Regional Centre for Education student services staff to ensure that curriculum requirements of special needs students are met;
  • To represent the Regional Centre for Education on provincial and regional committees related to mathematics and science programs;
  • To provide “mathematics and science information” sessions for parents/guardians in conjunction with school administration;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Programs & Student Services
