About The Position

The Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) is seeking a Term Consultant for French Language programs. This role involves leadership and support for French Second Language Programs, including French Immersion and Core French. The consultant will ensure teachers are trained in the neurolinguistic approach, assist with recruitment, provide direct support to schools, and facilitate professional development. They will also coordinate cultural activities, support mentors and interventionists, and liaise with the Department of Education and community partners. The position requires the ability to work both independently and as part of the Programs and Student Services team. Travel within the Region and Province will be required.

Requirements

  • Valid Nova Scotia Teacher’s Certificate
  • Master of Education or actively involved in pursuing a Masters in Education degree
  • Undergraduate degree with major or minor in French
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the French Language, oral and written
  • Minimum 5 years teaching experience in French Second Language
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication, organization and collaboration skills
  • Must provide a current (within the last 6 months), and clear Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Abuse Registry prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership of French Second Language Programs, including French Immersion and Core French
  • Ensure all French Language Teachers are trained and implementing the neurolinguistic approach of French Language instruction
  • Assist with the recruitment and hiring of French Second Language teachers, in collaboration with the Human Resources Division
  • Provision of direct support to schools in all aspects of French Programs
  • Design and facilitation of school-based and regional professional development sessions
  • Coordination of French cultural and extra-curricular activities in schools, such as Concours
  • Support French language mentors and interventionists
  • Support to schools in the interpretation of assessment results in literacy and numeracy to support student programming
  • Liaison with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and community partners on French programs
  • Representation of the Strait Regional Centre for Education on local and provincial committees
  • Ability to work in a self-directed environment and also effectively within the Programs and Student Services team
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Programs & Student Services
