About The Position

Mitchell Hamline School of Law seeks applicants for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position in lawyering skills and experiential education. The school is a leader in pedagogical innovation and is dedicated to expanding access to high-quality legal education. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2027. The school welcomes applications from candidates at all career stages and particularly encourages experienced teachers and scholars, including candidates who currently hold tenure at another institution or whose records may support appointment with tenure under Mitchell Hamline's standards. Candidates are expected to contribute to teaching, scholarship, faculty governance, curricular leadership, and the strategic development of the law school. The school is especially interested in candidates prepared to teach courses in areas such as negotiation, problem-solving, advocacy, litigation skills, or other related practice-oriented subjects. Candidates should also be available and enthusiastic about teaching across multiple modalities: in-person classes, synchronous online classes, and in the innovative blended learning program. The successful candidate will teach skills and experiential courses, contribute to the continued development of the law school's practice-oriented curriculum, engage in scholarship consistent with the expectations of a tenured or tenure-track faculty appointment, and participate in faculty governance and service. Depending on the candidate's expertise and the law school's curricular needs, the successful candidate may also teach doctrinal courses. Skills faculty at Mitchell Hamline are fully integrated into the faculty and the intellectual life of the law school. This position carries a tenured or tenure-track faculty appointment, with rank and tenure status depending on qualifications and experience.

Requirements

  • Distinguished academic credentials
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
  • At least five years of practice and/or skills-based or clinical teaching experience
  • Ability to teach in in-person and blended modalities
  • Commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive community aligned with the goals of equity and inclusion, demonstrated through legal practice or community service experience, a scholarly approach that contributes to the legal system's impact on underserved groups, or teaching that incorporates effective strategies for the educational advancement of students from underrepresented groups.
