About The Position

Tenure-Track Faculty in the Department of Computer Science hold full-time appointments with a workload allocation of approximately 40% teaching, 50% research, and 10% service. They are expected to develop nationally recognized research programs supported by external funding, disseminate their work in high-impact venues, and mentor both graduate and undergraduate students in research. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and graduate courses, curriculum development, and the use of effective and inclusive pedagogy. Tenure-Track Faculty also contribute to departmental, university, and professional service, consistent with Virginia Tech’s land-grant mission and commitment to Ut Prosim (“That I May Serve”). Their performance is evaluated annually, and advancement is governed by the university's promotion and tenure process.

Requirements

An earned doctoral degree in Computer Science or closely related field at the time of the appointment.
A rank-appropriate record of scholarship and collaboration in computing research.
Record of significant research accomplishments (e.g. publications).
Rank-appropriate record of professional service.
Ability to contribute to the department's teaching mission, at both graduate and undergraduate levels.
