About The Position

The Tennessean is seeking a Tennessee Titans reporter to produce high-value storytelling that provides context and analysis, along with entertaining features and investigative pieces. Breaking news and developing strong sources are critical. The reporter will create content across available formats and platforms, including social media, podcasts, video, television and online. The role is part of the USA TODAY Network's South Region, which emphasizes collaboration across high school, college and professional markets. Primary coverage will focus on the Tennessee Titans, with additional support for major events such as NASCAR and NCAA events.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least three years of professional journalism experience.
• Entrepreneurial approach to growing an audience and building a dedicated following.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to take photos and record video and audio in the field.
• Sound news judgment informed by experience with audience metrics.
• Strong understanding of journalism ethics and the basics of media law.
• Commitment to reporting with fairness, compassion and sensitivity.
• Command of the USA TODAY style guide and dedication to accuracy.
• Curious, assertive and self-starting approach to journalism.
• Ability to develop strong sources.

Responsibilities

• Cover the Tennessee Titans as the primary beat.
• Assist with coverage of major events, including NASCAR and NCAA events.
• Report breaking news and trending topics with urgency.
• Use social media and messaging platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and Reddit, as reporting tools.
• Optimize stories for target audience groups using SEO and audience metrics.
• Produce storytelling and content across social media, podcasts, video, television and online formats.
