About The Position

The Sports Reporter researches, writes, captures visual content, edits stories, and produces and presents sports reports across multiple platforms. The role ensures sports content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality, and works closely with the sports team to develop comprehensive coverage. The reporter shoots and edits video for television broadcasts and eMedia, sets up and composes video shots, maintains video equipment, and writes stories for websites and other eMedia platforms. The role also responds to breaking sports events and urgent newsroom situations, supports sports programming and other content, interacts with viewers and users on social media, and participates in promotional activities and public appearances. Special projects and other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of sports and sports-related activities.
Fluency in English.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Minimum five years of experience in sports reporting or anchoring; experience may vary depending on market size.
Superior on-air presence.
Experience guiding, directing, and motivating others.
Ability to identify others’ developmental needs and coach, mentor, or otherwise help them improve their knowledge or skills.
Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and other office equipment.
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to listen effectively to understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solution.
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Flexibility to work any shift.

Work with the sports team to develop comprehensive sports coverage.
Participate in promotional activities, including public appearances.
Shoot video for sports reports; set up, compose, and execute video shots.
Maintain video equipment.
Edit video clips for television broadcasts and eMedia content.
Write stories for websites and other eMedia platforms.
Interact with viewers and users on social media sites.
Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
