About The Position

The Sports Reporter researches, writes, captures visual content, edits stories, and produces and presents sports reports across multiple platforms. The role ensures sports content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality and contributes to sports programming and broader newsroom coverage. The reporter shoots and edits video for television broadcasts and eMedia, creates stories for websites and other eMedia platforms, and engages with viewers and users on social media. The position also responds to breaking sports events and urgent newsroom situations, works with the sports team to develop comprehensive coverage, participates in promotional activities and public appearances, and performs special projects and other assigned duties.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of sports and sports-related activities.
Fluency in English.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Minimum five years’ experience in sports reporting or anchoring; experience requirements may vary with market size.
Superior on-air presence.
Experience guiding, directing, and motivating others.
Ability to identify others’ developmental needs and coach, mentor, or otherwise help them improve their knowledge or skills.
Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and other office equipment.
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to listen effectively, understand problems, and communicate with a team to shape a solution.
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Flexibility to work any shift.

Responsibilities

Produce and present sports reports for all platforms.
Ensure sports content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
Write and deliver sports stories clearly and concisely.
Assist with writing, copy editing, researching, and coordinating sports programming and other content.
Respond to breaking sports events and other urgent newsroom situations as required.
Work closely with the sports team to develop comprehensive sports coverage.
Participate in promotional activities, including public appearances.
Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
Shoot video for sports reports.
Set up, compose, and execute video shots.
Maintain video equipment.
Edit video clips for television broadcasts and eMedia content.
Write stories for the website and other eMedia platforms.
Interact with viewers and users on social media sites.
