About The Position

NBCUniversal is offering Academic Year internships for students looking to gain experience during the upcoming academic year. This program provides an opportunity to work on real projects, contribute to meaningful work, and develop essential skills within a collaborative culture. Interns will receive support for their growth across two full semesters. The program is designed for curious, driven individuals interested in media, entertainment, and technology, offering an environment for daily learning and development. Internships are paid, and Academic Year interns will receive additional benefits including paid time off for mental health, academic exams, and personal holidays, robust networking and professional development opportunities, a complimentary Peacock subscription, free admission to Universal Parks, and access to mental health resources.

Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2026 through April 2027).
  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
  • Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week from September 21, 2026 – April 23, 2027.
  • Must be willing to work in Washington, DC.
  • Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred (written and verbal).
  • Pursuing a degree in Journalism or Broadcast Journalism, Digital/New Media Studies, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Production, English, Social Media, Research.
  • Commitment to building an inclusive work environment.
  • Ability to multitask and highly organized.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Previous internship experience within a corporate setting.
  • Social Media Platforms, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Creative Suite, and SEO tools such as Google Trends.
  • Spanish language writing and speaking proficiency a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the daily editorial process: planning, researching, newsgathering, logging, writing, and editing.
  • Learn editorial and technical aspects of news gathering.
  • Shadow producers and assignment editors.
  • Produce individual news stories for demo reels and online.
  • Participate in studio anchor sessions.
  • Research view calls and tips and assist on the assignment desk.
  • Pitch, report, and write news and features.
  • Pitch, shoot, and edit packaged video pieces for social media platforms in conjunction with the Digital staff and on-air reporters.
  • Identify opportunities for interaction on social media platforms with live conversations between reporters and story sources.
  • Cut video from linear shows for use on websites, apps, and social media.
  • Identify opportunities for graphics and data visualization.
  • Shadow digital editors, TV producers, assignment desk editors, and others.
  • Assist with planning community meetings and receptions for 50-100 people.
  • Refresh stations’ partner and influencer lists.
  • Research feature opportunities for community segments and shows.
  • Write engaging solution-focused articles for station websites.
  • Assist with planning and set up of dynamic live shots in the community.
