About The Position

NBCUniversal is seeking motivated students for its Academic Year Internship Program, offering a chance to work on real projects and contribute to meaningful work across two full semesters. This paid internship provides a collaborative culture and support for growth, ideal for those curious and driven about media, entertainment, and technology. Interns will gain valuable skills and experience while working 16-24 hours per week in Washington, DC, from September 21, 2026, to April 23, 2027. The program includes networking, professional development, a complimentary Peacock subscription, free admission to Universal Parks, and access to mental health resources.

Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2026 through April 2027).
  • December 2026 graduates are not eligible for this Academic Year Internship Program.
  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
  • Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week from September 21, 2026 – April 23, 2027.
  • Must be willing to work in Washington, DC.
  • Candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.
  • NBCUniversal is an E-Verify company, requiring all employees to have an active Social Security number.
  • Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.
  • Submit a one-page resume that outlines your work experience, accomplishments, and your graduation month and year.
  • Submit a cover letter that highlights your passion for NBCUniversal and your top areas of interest.
  • Upload a transcript (unofficial transcripts are fine) that confirms your status as an actively enrolled student in a degree-granting program.

Nice To Haves

  • Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Pursuing a degree in Journalism or Broadcast Journalism, Digital/New Media Studies, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Production, English, Social Media, Research.
  • Commitment to building an inclusive work environment.
  • Ability to multitask and highly organized.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Previous internship experience within a corporate setting.
  • Social Media Platforms, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Creative Suite, SEO tools such as Google Trends.
  • Spanish language writing and speaking proficiency a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the daily editorial process: planning, researching, newsgathering, logging, writing, and editing.
  • Learn editorial and technical aspects of news gathering.
  • Shadow producers and assignment editors.
  • Produce individual news stories for demo reels and online.
  • Participate in studio anchor sessions.
  • Research view calls and tips and assist on the assignment desk.
  • Pitch, report, and write news and features.
  • Pitch, shoot, and edit packaged video pieces for social media platforms in conjunction with the Digital staff and on-air reporters.
  • Identify opportunities for interaction on social media platforms with live conversations between reporters and story sources.
  • Cut video from linear shows for use on websites, apps, and social media.
  • Identify opportunities for graphics and data visualization.
  • Shadow digital editors, TV producers, assignment desk editors, and others.
  • Assist with planning community meetings and receptions for 50-100 people.
  • Refresh stations’ partner and influencer lists.
  • Research feature opportunities for community segments and shows.
  • Write engaging solution-focused articles for station websites.
  • Assist with planning and set up of dynamic live shots in the community.
