About The Position

NBCUniversal is seeking motivated students for its Academic Year Internship Program, offering a chance to work on real projects and contribute to meaningful work across two full semesters. This program is designed for curious, driven individuals excited about media, entertainment, and technology, providing an environment for learning and growth. Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2026 through April 2027).
  • December 2026 graduates are not eligible for this Academic Year Internship Program.
  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
  • Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week from September 21, 2026 – April 23, 2027.
  • Must be willing to work in New York, NY.
  • Candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship.
  • NBCUniversal is an E-Verify company, requiring all employees to have an active Social Security number.
  • Any candidate receiving an internship offer must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Log tapes and video footage.
  • Compile news stories and pitch ideas to producers.
  • Transcribe interviews.
  • Record music hit times for music cues.
  • Build slide decks and prepare for editorial meetings.
  • Log b roll and transcripts.
  • Help prepare for edits.
  • Compile research for editorial preparation and create research packets.
  • Select and compile footage & stills for on-air elements.
  • Design and manage graphics.
  • Print and deliver scripts.
  • Conduct research, file records requests, analyze data, organize media, and assist on local shoots for the Investigative Unit.
  • Assist with guest research and upcoming events, manage lists/pitch packets, and support the team with in-studio guests/shoots for the Booking Unit.
  • Assist digital, television, and investigative teams with research, newsgathering, and story production for the Business Technology & Innovation Unit.
  • Monitor news outlets for breaking news and pitch enterprise news stories.
  • Make calls to relevant sources, listen to radio traffic, log press conferences, and check social media postings for breaking news on the Network Desk.
  • Assist with the logistics of sending NBC News teams to cover news on location.
  • Assist with the production of podcasts, including researching stories, gathering audio, booking guests, writing scripts/headlines, editing, and posting shows.
  • Research and fact-check stories for NBC News Now.
  • Assist in editing video and graphics for NBC News Now.
  • Pitch stories for daily and future segments for NBC News Now.
  • Mine and edit video and sound for NBC News Now.
  • Conduct forecast research and create/update WSI Tru Vu Max graphics for the Climate/Weather Unit.
  • Research and present information on Climate change and Climate solutions.
  • Help manage the Shop TODAY social editorial calendars.
  • Write multiple social-first shopping stories a week for Shop TODAY.
  • Assist in larger projects and initiatives for Shop TODAY.
  • Keep track of social posting and reporting data for Shop TODAY.
  • Build articles in the CMS for Select News.
  • Track editorial workflow for Select News.
  • Help shape new copy flows for Select News.
  • Write new e-commerce content and update existing content for Select News.
  • Assist in pre- and post-production for Digital Documentary, including research, asset gathering, and cataloguing material from NBC archives.
  • Identify and source user-generated content.
  • Pitch stories and assist in story development for Digital Documentary.
  • Develop marketing promotion plans and alerts for top stories for Digital Platforms.
  • Write different variations of headlines for stories to optimize click-through rate and engagement.
  • Pitch, write, and report stories about the world of technology and the internet for Digital Tech.
  • Report and write timely, in-depth original features on a wide range of health topics for Digital Health & Medical.
  • Interview experts about medical studies for Digital Health & Medical.
  • Pitch story ideas and identify trends in lifestyle and wellness for Digital Health & Medical.
  • Assist editors across TODAY.com’s news/trending and lifestyle teams.
  • Write for sections including Pop Culture, Health, Food, Parents, Style and TMRW on Today.com.
  • Use digital platforms to find user-generated content for Social Newsgathering.
  • Verify social media-sourced content for Social Newsgathering.
  • Interview sources and obtain information for network coverage for Social Newsgathering.
  • Help drive social media production and publication to multiple social media accounts for NBC News Social, TODAY Social.
  • Write headlines, edit video and graphics, and distribute content across social media platforms.
