About The Position

This position assumes daily tasks of observing, operating, and maintaining cardiac monitors. Identifies cardiac arrhythmias and seeks appropriate intervention. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned. On the job training is provided.

Requirements

• Knowledge of reading, writing, mathematical, and computer skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Interpersonal skills needed to communicate with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
• Must successfully pass dysrhythmia testing with an 80% score or higher during pre-employment process.
• Must successfully pass annual competency dysrhythmia testing.
• Successful completion of annual competency requirement(s), including mandatory net-learning modules.
• Employees need to demonstrate competency in Microsoft® Windows.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
• Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
• Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 0-10 lbs.

Nice To Haves

• Documented successful completion of dysrhythmia course or equivalent (such as a bachelor’s degree in cardiac rehab) in addition to successful pre-employment testing.

Responsibilities

• Observing, operating, and maintaining the cardiac monitors, both individual telemetry units on patients, and the main telemetry monitors located at the nurse’s station.
• Diligently observing cardiac monitors, interpreting heart rate and rhythm with accuracy, obtaining baseline strips, recognizing and reporting arrhythmias, and recording additional strips throughout the shift as needed.
• Identifying any changes in a cardiac pattern and any life-threatening dysrhythmias and notifying the appropriate Registered Nurse within an appropriate time frame.
• Maintaining the telemetry equipment, including replacing batteries, wires, and/or electrode pads, and cleaning equipment.
• Obtaining rhythm strips as directed by a nurse or physician in conjunction with a change of patient condition, administration of medication, etc.
• Accessing the medication room and supply room for the purpose of stocking.
• Performing miscellaneous duties as assigned.
