About The Position

Under general direction, this role assists with the management of telecommunication networks. Responsibilities include assisting with testing and analyzing network facilities, control software, routers, switches, lines, modems, adapters, and servers. The role also involves assisting with routine installation and support of LANs and/or WANs, performing technical analyses of software and hardware to ensure efficient operation, and helping to monitor data traffic and control network performance. Additionally, the position assists in resolving basic technical problems related to network failure/integrity. The associate will learn and adhere to policies, procedures, standards, codes, and regulations relevant to assignments, and pursue Zero Harm. The role involves developing knowledge of AEP networks, components, and facilities to enable more efficient and comprehensive responses to projects and problems. Under general direction, the associate will prepare cost estimates for routine engineering assignments, document project work, and perform routine network assignments. Review and adherence to approval processes as part of change management, incident management, and trouble response scenarios are expected, along with following standard workflows for routine analysis or operational procedures. The associate will also learn AEP's organizational structure and the specific role and responsibility of their unit.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, telecommunications, or related field of study or Associate's degree in field mentioned above with 2 years of relevant work experience or HS diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant work experience required.
  • Valid Driver's License is Required
  • Possess entry to basic level knowledge of communications technologies and inter-networking principles.
  • Demonstrate competency in analytical techniques necessary to handle basic assignments. (e.g., by dividing the problem into component steps, and performing the analysis necessary to complete each step.)
  • Exhibit fundamental understanding of pertinent telecom equipment, materials, systems and business processes
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be a team player
