About The Position

HealthCorps is recruiting a Teens Make Health Happen (TMHH) Mentor for programming in Oxnard and Ventura County, California, during the 2026–2027 academic year. The mentor will lead an innovative health and wellness club at assigned middle or high schools, serving as a near-peer mentor and helping students make healthier choices for themselves and their families. The role involves supporting teens as they plan and lead wellness activities, demonstrations, challenges, and community improvement projects. The commitment is 8 or more hours per week, including 3–4 hours each week at assigned school sites for instruction. Full academic-year placements are prioritized, although some single-semester and one- or three-site arrangements may be available. The mentor will collaborate with student wellness leaders, school partners, the Regional Program Manager, and other area mentors. They will assess school health needs, track and report program progress, host monthly Café O Yea demonstrations at each site, assist with regional events, and contribute program stories and photos to HealthCorps social media. The mentor will also connect students, staff, and community members with relevant local health resources and represent HealthCorps and its values at school sites and area events. HealthCorps offers ongoing training, professional development, and mentorship, as well as opportunities to gain public health and education experience and network with community leaders. The organization will work with the mentor and their university to provide college or course credit or practicum hours, depending on university requirements. A stipend is provided based on the number of sites served, distributed in monthly installments, to help offset participation-related costs. The offer is contingent on clearance of a background investigation and/or reference check.
