About The Position

HealthCorps is recruiting college students to serve as near-peer mentors for middle and high school students in the Southern Oklahoma area. Mentors implement HealthCorps’ Teens Make Health Happen wellness club at 1–3 schools, empowering teens to make healthier choices and create positive change in their families, schools, and communities. Mentors serve throughout the academic year, with some single-semester opportunities available. The expected commitment is at least 8 hours per week, including 3–4 or more hours weekly at assigned school sites for instruction. The role includes building relationships with teen wellness leaders and school partners; assessing local health needs and tracking program impact; planning and delivering wellness programming; and supporting teen-led activities such as demonstrations, step challenges, and community improvement projects. Mentors also host monthly Café O Yea demonstrations, contribute program highlights and stories to HealthCorps social media, participate in regional events, and connect students and staff with relevant local health resources. Ongoing training, professional development, leadership opportunities, and mentorship are provided at no cost. A stipend is provided in monthly installments based on the number of sites served, and HealthCorps will work with the mentor’s university to arrange eligible college credit or practicum hours.
