About The Position

Provide technical support, services and training to faculty, staff, students and outside organizations for software, hardware, peripherals and audio-visual equipment. This role ensures that all classes, equipment, and community events run efficiently, both on and off campus. The Technology Specialist will assist users with computer, internet, wireless access, and media issues, and troubleshoot hardware, software, and audio-visual problems. They will also be responsible for setting up, running, and tearing down audio-visual equipment for events, and for the setup, installation, imaging, and maintenance of equipment in assigned areas. The position involves monitoring emerging technologies, developing specifications, and recommending new equipment acquisitions, as well as integrating new technologies into existing structures. Maintaining accurate records of software, hardware, equipment utilization, and problems is crucial. The role requires adherence to district policies, Technology Services standard operating procedures, and copyright laws. Support extends to all faculty, staff, and college-owned student computers, including installation, imaging, and troubleshooting. All support requests must be properly documented in the ticketing system, and security threats reported by the Security Department must be remediated. The Technology Specialist will also document and maintain accurate inventory and active directory containers, and create and update knowledge base articles. Assistance with networking and telecommunications may be requested, and all work must comply with standards for electrical and mechanical equipment.

Requirements

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution and three (3) years of related work experience required.
  • Five (5) years of directly related work experience may be substituted for the associate degree.
  • Knowledge of multiple types of audio-visual equipment to include: control systems, audio systems, audio/video conferencing, video streaming and recording, distance learning systems, projectors, media formats, etc.
  • Knowledge of institutional standard computer software and hardware

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and services to the college community ensuring all classes, equipment and community events (both on and off Collin College campuses) run efficiently.
  • Assist students, faculty, staff and vendors with all computer, Internet, wireless access, and media issues. Troubleshoot hardware, software and audio-visual problems.
  • Facilitate conference center/campus events by setting up, running, and tearing down audio-visual equipment.
  • Setup, install, image and maintain all associated equipment in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Monitor emerging technologies, develop specifications and make recommendations for necessary acquisitions of new equipment.
  • Integrate new technologies into existing structure of classrooms, offices and conference centers.
  • Maintain accurate records on software, hardware, equipment utilization and problems.
  • Maintain familiarity with and ensure compliance with district policies and Technology Services standard operating procedures to ensure copyright laws are not violated.
  • Support all faculty, staff, and college owned student computers, including installation, imaging, and troubleshooting.
  • Properly document all tickets in ticketing system. Support requests through ticketing system.
  • Remediate security threats reported by the Security Department.
  • Document and maintain accurate inventory and active directory containers.
  • Create and update knowledge base articles.
  • Assist with networking and telecommunications upon request.
  • Follow standards, rules, regulations and orders for electrical and mechanical equipment at all times.
