Technology Internship Program (Data Engineering)
About The Position
CNA's Tech Summer Internship Program is designed as a dynamic and fast-paced 10-12 week training program offering hands-on experience and unique opportunities across various technologies. Data Engineering interns will be involved in the design, development, and integration of strategic, high-priority data applications throughout the entire software development lifecycle. The program aims to provide interns with real-world experience, in-depth education about technology, the insurance industry, and CNA's operations, highlighting the crucial role of Technology in an insurer's profitability. Interns will receive guidance from a dedicated manager and mentor, have opportunities to interact with senior leadership, and participate in professional development activities. Consideration for full-time placement after graduation is also a possibility.
Requirements
- Must be a sophomore, junior, or senior (undergraduate) or in the first year of a Master's program pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- A minimum 3.00 GPA is required (overall and major).
- Working knowledge of relational database concepts.
- 1+ years of coding proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, R, SQL).
- Interest in the Insurance Industry.
- Some previous work experience preferred.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, and the ability to cultivate and maintain positive business relationships.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Effective problem-solving, analytical aptitude, learn quickly and embrace change.
- Ability to learn and change quickly.
- Demonstrated leadership ability.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the design, development, and integration of strategic, high-priority data applications across the entire software development lifecycle.
- Participate in the building of large-scale data processing systems and data lakes, optimized for both computational and storage efficiency on Google Cloud Platform.
- Apply technical knowledge on data modeling and best engineering practices.
- Participate in the design of complex physical data models, projects, and cloud-based data lake constructs, including SQL/NoSQL database systems.
- Work directly with experienced CNA developers to learn Agile programming methodology.
- Engage in in-depth education in technology, the insurance industry, CNA’s organization, and the role of Technology in an insurer’s profitability.
- Receive guidance from a dedicated manager and mentor throughout the internship program.
- Meet with members of the senior leadership team to learn about their experiences in Technology within the insurance industry.
- Participate in professional and personal development activities and receive ongoing feedback and coaching on performance.
- Be considered for potential full-time placement upon graduation.
