About The Position

CNA's Tech Summer Internship Program is designed as a dynamic and fast-paced 10-12 week training program offering hands-on experience and unique opportunities across a variety of technologies. Data Engineering interns will be involved in the design, development, and integration of strategic, high-priority data applications throughout the entire software development lifecycle. The program aims to provide interns with challenging, innovative assignments that offer real-world experience in applying technical education to technology projects. Interns will participate in building large-scale data processing systems and data lakes, optimized for both computational and storage efficiency on Google Cloud Platform. They will apply technical knowledge in data modeling and best engineering practices, and participate in the design of complex physical data models, projects, and cloud-based data lake constructs, including SQL/NoSQL database systems. Interns will work directly with experienced CNA developers to learn Agile programming methodology and receive in-depth education in technology, the insurance industry, CNA's organization, and the role of Technology in an insurer's profitability. Each intern will have a dedicated manager and a mentor to guide them throughout the program, with opportunities to meet senior leadership and learn about their experiences in the insurance technology sector. The program also includes professional and personal development activities, ongoing feedback, and coaching, with consideration for potential full-time placement upon graduation.

Requirements

  • Must be a sophomore, junior or senior (undergraduate) or in first year of Master's program pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.
  • A minimum 3.00 GPA (overall and major).
  • Working knowledge of relational database concepts.
  • 1+ years of coding proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, R, SQL).
  • Interest in the Insurance Industry.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain positive business relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effective problem solving, analytical aptitude, learn quickly and embrace change.
  • Ability to learn and change quickly.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
