About The Position

The Technology Infrastructure Architect is a critical role responsible for envisioning, designing, and overseeing the implementation of robust, scalable, and secure infrastructure solutions that span both traditional on-premise data centers and diverse cloud environments (public, private, and hybrid). This position requires a deep understanding of infrastructure architecture modeling, a proactive approach to leveraging emerging technologies including containerization, and the ability to drive strategic cloud adoption while maintaining operational excellence and cost efficiency. The architect will translate complex application and business requirements into comprehensive infrastructure designs, define enterprise cloud and containerization strategies, ensure strict adherence to architectural standards and Citi's security posture, and lead the charge in continuous platform optimization and innovative solution delivery.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience across cloud, infrastructure, and platform engineering
  • Deep understanding of cloud computing technologies, applications, trends, and the intricacies of cloud infrastructure, software application design, and deployment models (public, private, hybrid).
  • Proven expertise in containerization technologies (Docker) and container orchestration platforms, especially Kubernetes, including design, deployment, and management of large-scale Kubernetes clusters.
  • Proven experience with major public cloud platforms (Amazon Web Services - AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure) and a strong grasp of their services and architectural patterns.
  • Expertise in on-premise data center technologies, including server virtualization (e.g., VMware), storage solutions (SAN/NAS), networking (TCP/IP, routing, firewalls, load balancers), and operating systems (Linux, Windows).
  • Strong cloud migration, application modernization (including re-platforming to containers), and data management skills, with a critical emphasis on data privacy and security in hybrid environments.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible), CI/CD pipelines for automated infrastructure and application deployments, and scripting languages.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities, analytical skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to collaborate effectively with cross-functional departments and organizational teams, providing support for their future endeavors and communicating architectural changes clearly.
  • Good understanding of FinOps principles and cloud billing models.
  • Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Relevant industry certifications such as TOGAF, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Certified Architect, or Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)/Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and provide expert assistance in the implementation of infrastructure solutions, translating complex application designs and business requirements into highly scalable, resilient, secure, and optimized architectures across hybrid environments.
  • Model sophisticated cloud and container architectures, providing specialized expertise in designing and developing the underlying infrastructure for public, private, and hybrid cloud deployments, with a strong focus on container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
  • Develop detailed infrastructure designs, including network topologies, server configurations, storage solutions, and virtualization strategies for both on-premise data centers and major public cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Design strategies and architectures for identifying existing applications suitable for containerization, re-platforming, and migrating them to containerized environments.
  • Perform comprehensive sizing and capacity planning based on business Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs) to ensure optimal performance, resource utilization, and cost-effectiveness for both virtualized and containerized workloads.
  • Lead and execute initiatives for End-of-Vendor Support (EOVS) remediation, technology refreshes, and disaster recovery/business continuity strategies across the entire infrastructure landscape, including containerized applications.
  • Provide expert guidance and consulting on appropriate technology strategies, leveraging emerging technologies and evolving engineering practices to guide project teams and solve complex business problems.
  • Analyze application portfolios to identify dependencies, common infrastructure components, and assess migration feasibility to cloud environments and suitability for containerization.
  • Deliver proof-of-concept projects to validate new technologies and solutions, and build reusable cloud patterns and containerized solutions for standard web applications and other enterprise needs.
  • Conduct application performance benchmarking and analysis to identify bottlenecks and propose architectural improvements for both traditional and containerized applications.
  • Define enterprise cloud and containerization strategies, publish, maintain, and enforce reference architectures and platform roadmaps that encompass both on-premise, cloud, and container infrastructure patterns.
  • Ensure rigorous alignment of all infrastructure designs and rollouts with established enterprise reference standards, CATE (Citi Approved Technology and Engineering) certified products/stacks, and regulatory requirements.
  • Define and enforce containerization standards, including image hardening, registry management, and deployment best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with security teams to ensure all infrastructure designs adhere strictly to the Citi Security Posture, implementing robust security controls and best practices across hybrid environments, with emphasis on data privacy and security, including secure container runtime and network policies.
  • Actively participate in architectural review boards and ensure compliance with internal policies and industry best practices.
  • Proactively assess opportunities for optimizing both on-premise and cloud platforms, including strategic cloud adoption, effective utilization of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), and broader platform transformations in alignment with technology market trends.
  • Optimize resource utilization within Kubernetes clusters and other container platforms.
  • Possess a good understanding of FinOps principles and cloud billing models to drive cost transparency, optimization, and financial accountability for cloud spending, including cost management for containerized workloads.
  • Identify and implement strategies for business cost savings through the continuous optimization and modernization of existing infrastructure, including rightsizing, automation (with a focus on container deployment and management), and leveraging cloud-native cost management tools.
  • Conduct detailed infrastructure assessments for the GCG (Global Consumer Banking) quarterly/yearly Book of Work, providing accurate financial outlooks and resource projections for hybrid infrastructure needs, including containerization initiatives.
  • Evaluate and monitor cloud migration and container adoption roadmaps, driving acceptance across complex organizational structures, and perform prioritization assessments of infrastructure rollouts and projects based on business value, strategic objectives, and developer capacity per release.
