About The Position

The IT Help Desk provides a learning, supportive, team environment. The IT Help Desk Customer Support position serves as a phone, email, and walk-in computing resource and support to UW-Superior, students, alumni, faculty, staff, and affiliates. Our employees respond to inquiries concerning campus-wide applications, network connectivity, PC & Macintosh computer hardware and operating systems, application software, internet browsers, and other supported software. Student employees hired for this position will start their training learning about our computer labs and classroom technology. Supporting other students in the lab environment will involve answering questions and maintaining printers (paper/toner/etc.). Supporting classrooms will involve regularly scheduled classroom visits to check on equipment and reporting any failures to our classroom technicians. Student employees will also support faculty during on-call situations to help diagnose and instruct the user how to operate the classroom equipment.

Requirements

  • At least half-time student status.
  • Commitment to work 10-12 hours/week up to a maximum of 20 hours/week when classes are in session (potentially up to 40 hours/week when classes are not in session and over summer).

  • Basic knowledge of computer systems, software, and campus-wide applications.
  • Ability to learn technical concepts and new applications quickly.
  • Must have a social security card and a form of identity to complete hiring paperwork.
  • Employment will require a criminal background check.
