About The Position

We are seeking seasoned shop and field technicians/mechanics with experience in similar heavy equipment dealerships to join our third-generation, family-owned organization. This role involves installing, troubleshooting, and repairing telematics devices and components, performing software updates, and basic troubleshooting. You will communicate regularly with internal and external clients regarding the status of scheduled installations, repairs, and hardware/software updates.

Requirements

At least six months of related experience in a similar role and environment.
Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend English.
Keep safety as a priority in the work environment.
Ability to successfully complete a skills assessment.
Valid driver’s license.
Excellent client service skills.
Own and maintain required personal tools.
Strong computer and phone skills to send emails/texts; use Microsoft Office applications; and access and search the internet.
Ability to utilize a laptop computer to access and maintain work order system, email, order parts, perform software updates, and locate installation and repair data, complete registry editing.
Ability to learn how to read and interpret electrical system diagrams in order to perform installations and repairs.
Ability to understand analog and digital sensors and their application and utilization to augment GPS data.
Ability to learn how to troubleshoot electrical wiring on heavy equipment.
Ability to understand a multi-meter and to test for voltage, current, and continuity.
Ability to learn functionality and application of GPS and telematics devices.
Basic mechanical skills and knowledge; fabrication practices; and ability to use hand and portable power tools.
Adequate communication skills to schedule and explain repairs, maintenance, and updates to clients.
Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented manner.
Ability to travel to remote locations, stay overnight, as well as work weekends and after hours.
Ability to make decisions and work independently.
Must have acceptable attendance to meet all company standards and requirements.
Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
Current Driver’s license.
Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.

Nice To Haves

At least three years heavy equipment technician experience, preferably in a dealership environment.
Caterpillar work experience.
Proficient rebuilding/repairing machinery including electrical, navigation systems, failure analysis procedures, and/or warranty claims procedures.
Experience with common automotive systems and equipment.
Ability to achieve MSHA certification.

Responsibilities

Install, troubleshoot, and repair telematics devices and components.
Perform hardware and software updates as necessary.
Perform basic troubleshooting of digital and analog electronic components, electrical wiring, and related mechanical systems.
Travel to client locations which may include construction, mining, and landfill sites.
Prepare detailed service reports and submit to the billing department in a timely manner.
Maintain company vehicle and equipment in optimal condition.
Uphold a professional image that reflects positively on the company.
Travel out of town for days at a time and work evenings and/or weekends as necessary.
Work safely at all times, adhering to all applicable safety policies.
Comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
Own and maintain required personal tools.
Learn and utilize company business systems for research, placing orders, and tracking job-related activities.
Assist Technicians II and III with grade control installations as needed.
Follow standard operating procedures.
Perform preventative maintenance duties as needed.
Schedule own work for maximum efficiency and effectiveness in the service planner’s absence.
Develop client relations that enhance and inspire trust in the company brand.
Maintain open communications with manager and peers.
Communicate with proper individuals to clarify instructions, solve technical-related issues, or discuss scope and progress of the job.
