About The Position

The Technology Coordinator is responsible for installing and maintaining computer lab desktop systems and software, including setting up, configuring, maintaining, re-imaging, and recycling computers. This role involves deploying and maintaining Windows OS and Mac OS system software, campus-licensed applications, and department-licensed applications. The coordinator will also maintain computer labs and classroom AV equipment, ensuring safety and security protocols are followed. This includes monitoring AV equipment, repairing computers and peripherals, coordinating with the Office of Technology Services (OTS) for upgrades, and safeguarding the network from threats. Additionally, the position provides technological support for faculty, staff, and students, responding to requests, troubleshooting issues, and developing training programs. The role also involves managing a student equipment database, ordering replacement parts, managing student lab aides, and serving as a liaison with OTS and COFAC TECH. Record keeping, bookkeeping, and other assigned duties are also part of the responsibilities. The work schedule may include occasional evening hours.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with researching, installing, and troubleshooting hardware and software and systems integration and application analysis.
  • High level knowledge of computer, classroom technology, various software and applications used in academic departments and mass communication discipline to support teaching, research, and administration.
  • Ability to solve complex audiovisual challenges with minimal assistance and provide prompt solutions and workarounds.
  • Demonstrated strength in handling detailed work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while prioritizing stressful situations.
  • Capability to take initiative and support a wide variety of technologies.
  • Strong organizational skills for project management and tracking/management of inventory.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of users and stakeholders including faculty, staff, students, OTS staff, and administrators at various levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for working with both technology experts and non-technology experts.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with computer systems and operating environments, including Windows and macOS, networked devices (Ethernet and Wi-Fi), and enterprise IT infrastructure.
  • Experience with instructional and AV technologies, including projectors, video conferencing systems, Crestron control systems, and remote/virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom).
  • Experience with software and digital tools, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, and web technologies (HTML, web hosting, and website management).
  • Experience with media equipment and production tools, including cameras, microphones, and related technologies, preferably in mass communication or digital publishing contexts.

Responsibilities

  • Setup, configure, maintain, re-image, and recycle desktop computers in the lab and on classroom teaching stations.
  • Deploy and maintain Windows OS and Mac OS system software, including campus licensed apps and department-licensed apps.
  • Coordinate with OTS to re-image Dell PCs and Macs through a local Windows server or the campus JAMF server for Macs.
  • Maintain safety and security protocols of the labs and classrooms.
  • Monitor AV equipment in classrooms, including projection systems, lecture capture cameras, and remote connections.
  • Repair computers and peripherals where feasible; arrange for repair by OTS or outside vendors when required.
  • Coordinate with OTS for computer upgrades and safeguard computers and TU network from malware and any other threats.
  • Assess periodically for computer maintenance, virus scans, deleting student profiles, and updating software packages.
  • Respond to MCOM faculty and staff requests for technology support for in-person or virtual classes, conferences, or special events.
  • Assess circumstances, troubleshoot, and engage the appropriate personnel to address problems quickly and accurately.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for faculty and student employees on the use of standard and program-specific software.
  • Support students with installation of program-specific software on their equipment.
  • Coordinate with faculty on special requests for software and hardware through Student Technology Fees (STF) project requests.
  • Plan for future technological needs by staying up to date with technology changes in mass communication or related fields.
  • Upload student rosters into database at start of each semester.
  • Add/edit equipment assets and kits.
  • Troubleshoot common user issues with Canon DSLR cameras, JVC video cameras, Yeti microphones, etc.
  • Order and install replacement parts, as needed.
  • Hire student lab aides to assist with lab operations and to staff Open Lab Hours.
  • Train and supervise student employees in computer imaging and deployment, software installation, security policies, basic network connectivity, and proper recycling of outdated lab computers.
  • Represent the MCOM department to OTS and other technology support groups outside the department.
  • Work with COFAC Technology Committee to coordinate, guide and advocate MCOM faculty and staff proposals for technology-related funding.
  • Manage a MCOM Department ProCard/VISA credit card for purchasing supplies, furniture, and equipment for the labs.
  • Monitor usage of department-owned resources, including software, hardware, printing, etc.
  • Manage the upkeep of the computer equipment storage and supply.
  • Properly discard all outdated equipment and unusable supply.
  • Keep a current inventory of all MCOM lab equipment.
  • Provide information on technology assets to OTS, property control, and other university entities where applicable.
  • Support the MCOM department with other duties as assigned, including support for the department’s website, online news site, and media production equipment.
