Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record (eight points or less)
  • Successful candidate(s) must pass the DOT Drug Test, DOT Physical, and respirator fit test
  • Must pass the required testing
  • Must pass the required training
  • Successful candidate(s) must complete a Background Check.
  • Must successfully pass all pre-employment assessment(s).
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid operators and Group A Commercial Driver’s License (CDLA) with Air Brake Endorsement. If successful candidate(s) does not already possess a valid CDL A, the candidate(s) will be required to obtain a Temporary Permit (TIP) during the pre-hire steps.
  • Must be able to be certified to wear self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • Must be willing and able to accept odd shifts, on-call, emergency assignments and work overtime per the terms of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Must be able to lift and move equipment weighing approximately 95lbs (jackhammer).
  • Must be able to climb in and out of excavation holes.
  • Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to use a variety of hand tools requiring upper body forces up to 40 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Natural Gas Operations.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, pipeline safety regulations.
  • Excavation or construction experience.
  • HVAC experience or certification.
  • Customer Service Experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties prescribed for all Utility Classification employees.
  • Engage in fitting work on service construction or repair crews.
  • Drive needle bars.
  • Make detector tests.
  • Perform Miss Dig staking.
  • Inspect meter manifolds and inside service piping for leaks.
  • Execute all leak orders.
  • Execute meter orders.
  • Operate a trencher, a tractor compressor or other types of mechanical equipment.
  • Install and make adjustments on domestic and commercial appliances.
  • Install and make minor adjustments on space heating units.
  • Install range lines, service regulators, and small meter manifolds.
  • Change service regulators and clear services of stoppages.
  • Install hot water heaters, gas grills, gas lights, gas fireplace logs, fuel lines, and perform conversion work.
  • Assist technicians of a higher classification on all types of work to the extent of the employee’s ability.
  • Possess a complete knowledge of the rules and procedures governing the types of service work and be able to properly recognize and refer work the employee feels incapable of handling satisfactorily.
  • Lead not more than three (3) employees during construction survey, concrete or cement finishing, or repair work.
  • Make tie-ins on all distribution system mains.
  • Install gauges.
  • Install and maintain street regulators.
  • Execute leak complaints.
  • Keep accurate records of new construction and repair work.
  • Make new main and service investigations and simple drawings.
  • Operate and make minor adjustments and perform servicing operations on trenching or other types of mechanical equipment.
  • Brace and barricade trenches safely, protecting the public and those employed on the job.
  • Make all adjustments on space heating units.
  • Make all adjustments on the gas portion of gas-fired air conditioning units.
  • Make minor adjustments on industrial equipment.
  • Perform all meter manifold work.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Utilize customer service skills.
