About The Position

The Audio/Visual (AV) Technical Support position is responsible for overseeing the parish's audio/visual systems and supporting the successful execution of weekend Masses, liturgies, school Masses, and special parish and school events. This position ensures that AV equipment is properly maintained, organized, and operated while providing training, guidance, and technical support to AV Technicians. The AV Technical Support person serves as a resource and mentor to the parish's AV team, helping technicians develop confidence and consistency in operating the equipment and maintaining appropriate audio quality. This position requires strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with individuals with varying levels of technical experience. The position is approximately 10 hours per week, with additional flexibility as needed for major liturgical celebrations and special events.

Requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of audio/visual systems, sound equipment, mixing consoles, microphones, streaming equipment, and related technology.
  • Ability to learn and maintain a detailed understanding of the parish's specific AV equipment and systems.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to explain technical information clearly to individuals with varying levels of experience.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
  • Patient, approachable, dependable, and willing to work one-on-one with others.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and consistency.
  • Ability to remain calm and troubleshoot effectively in time-sensitive situations.
  • Flexibility to support weekend Masses and special events as needed.
  • Criminal background check, Family Care Safety Registration, drug screen, employment and educational licensure/certification verification, health screening, and any other screenings deemed necessary for employment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a strong working knowledge of the parish's audio/visual systems, equipment, and operational procedures.
  • Monitor and maintain the audio system to ensure reliable and consistent performance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve AV processes, procedures, and system functionality.
  • Streamline AV operations and eliminate unnecessary or redundant processes within the audio system.
  • Ensure AV equipment, workspaces, and storage areas are clean, organized, properly maintained, and ready for use.
  • Respond promptly to audio and AV issues and provide or coordinate technical support to resolve problems.
  • Troubleshoot unique or unexpected audio situations that may arise during Masses or parish events.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for questions or concerns related to the parish's AV systems.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and oversee AV Technicians for weekend Masses and special events.
  • Ensure adequate AV coverage and preparation for weekend Masses and parish and school events throughout the year.
  • Communicate important AV updates, instructions, and event-specific information to weekend AV Technicians.
  • Prepare and distribute clear AV notes and instructions to help technicians successfully support upcoming Masses and events.
  • Ensure AV Technicians understand current system procedures, updates, and expectations.
  • Train and support AV Technicians in the proper operation of parish AV equipment.
  • Provide training through group sessions, one-on-one instruction, demonstrations, checklists, guides, and other resources as appropriate.
  • Establish consistent standards and practices for how the audio system should be operated and how audio should sound.
  • Empower AV Technicians to operate equipment confidently and effectively.
  • Assess individual training needs and provide additional coaching or support when needed.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment in which AV Technicians can ask questions, share information, and learn from one another.
  • Ensure the AV team and equipment are prepared to support major liturgical celebrations and parish events, including: Christmas Masses and celebrations, Easter Masses and celebrations, Weekend Masses, School Masses, Graduations, Weddings, Funerals, Choir and music ministry events, Prayer services and other parish gatherings, Other parish and school events as scheduled.
  • Provide specialized or hands-on technical support for events requiring unique audio/visual configurations or additional expertise.
  • Operate or oversee the dedicated streaming mixer for Masses that are livestreamed.
  • Coordinate with clergy, parish staff, musicians, choir members, school personnel, and other ministry leaders as needed to ensure AV needs are understood and met.
