About The Position

Toffler Associates is hiring a Technical SME in Space Science to contribute to complex client work. Consultants are accountable for the quality of their work, engagement health, team performance, and client relationships. The role requires onsite work in Bethesda, Maryland, and an active, maintained TS/SCI clearance with a CI polygraph. The position focuses on space systems engineering, mission design, or space operations, including satellite constellation operations, orbital mechanics, space environmental effects on space-based assets, satellite subsystems and vulnerabilities, space domain awareness, and space-environment sensing modalities. Toffler expects practitioners to put team success first, lead through sound judgment and performance, remain humble and receptive to feedback, communicate reliably, and take responsibility for strengthening clients, teams, and the firm. The company describes its culture as collaborative, candid, and low-ego, and values people who think deeply, act decisively, and contribute to meaningful work.

  • Six or more years of work experience, including at least six years in space systems engineering, mission design, or space operations.
  • Working knowledge of satellite constellation operations, orbital mechanics, and space environmental effects on space-based assets.
  • Familiarity with satellite subsystems, such as power, propulsion, attitude control, communications, and payloads, and their vulnerabilities to space-environment disturbances.
  • Understanding of space domain awareness approaches and systems.
  • Familiarity with space-environment sensing modalities, such as coronagraphs, magnetometers, particle detectors, ionospheric sounders, and GNSS receivers.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience in the Intelligence Community, including experience with requirements, CONOPS, and transition.
  • Knowledge of space-weather phenomena and their effects on space systems, communications, navigation, and ground-based infrastructure.
  • Understanding of the Sun-Earth system, including solar activity, solar wind, magnetosphere, ionosphere, and thermosphere interactions.
  • Experience with geophysical data types, formats, and sources, such as NOAA SWPC, NASA heliophysics missions, and ionospheric networks.
