About The Position

The Technical Services IT Specialist acts as the main liaison for all information technology support, including software, hardware, and systems within the Regent University Police Department (RUPD), covering the Communications Center. This role ensures the reliability, security, and performance of department-specific systems, assists with system administration and diagnosis, and supports the integration of law enforcement technologies such as access control, surveillance, key control, and GENETEC systems. The Technical Services IT Specialist responds to technical support requests, manages departmental information technology issues, coordinate with Regent University, CBN, and Founders Inn information technology services, and works closely with respective information technology staff to resolve problems.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant information technology experience, preferably in a public safety, government, or secure environment
  • Ability to operate with the highest level of confidentiality, integrity, and discretion, particularly in handling sensitive criminal investigations and personnel matters
  • Proven ability to analyze and interpret complex investigative reports, legal documents, and policy materials, applying discernment and sound decision-making
  • Be physically, emotionally, and mentally fit for duty, passing tests and exams as required
  • Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Awareness Training required upon hire or able to obtain

Nice To Haves

  • An associate, bachelor's or master's degree is preferred within the industry practice.
  • Certifications preferred: CompTia A+, Network+, or Security+
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or similar
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Prior experience supporting law enforcement or criminal justice systems is preferred (e.g. RMS, CAD, NCIC terminals)

Responsibilities

  • Administer and support Microsoft Windows operating systems and Office Suite platforms to ensure seamless departmental productivity
  • Diagnose, resolve, and document network performance issues involving DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, and related configurations
  • Configure and secure endpoints utilizing antivirus software, encryption tools, and endpoint detection protocols
  • Operate and maintain integrated surveillance and access control platforms (e.g. GENETEC), ensuring 24/7 law enforcement readiness
  • Manage and monitor Windows Server, Active Directory, and associated policy frameworks, aligning with RUPD Directives and Regent University/CBN protocols
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain networking devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs, to optimize secure data flow
  • Execute incident response actions and disaster recovery protocols, restoring operational capacity under time-sensitive conditions
  • Implement system imaging, device management, and deployment tools for standardized endpoint provisioning
  • Oversee multi-factor authentication (MFA) protocols, backup and recovery platforms, and digital evidence protection solutions
  • Maintain operational proficiency in law enforcement-specific technologies, including body-worn cameras, cloud storage, digital evidence lockers, and Records Management Systems (RMS)
  • Enforce compliance with the CJIS Security Policy, HIPAA, FERPA, and other federal/state data protection mandates
  • Uphold audit trail integrity and chain-of-custody for digital data, aligning with law enforcement evidentiary standards
  • Respond to FOIA, legal holds, eDiscovery requests, supporting investigations and court ordered disclosures
  • Apply access management protocols consistent with data classification, user roles, and security principles
  • Serve as the primary IT liaison for all department units and the Communications Center, managing support requests for software, hardware, and network connectivity
  • Triage and resolve IT support tickets, documenting resolution steps within designated help desk or ticketing platforms
  • Monitor system lifecycle needs and execute timely hardware/software upgrades to maintain peak system performance and reduce service disruptions
  • Maintain technical documentation, procedural standards, and job aids aligned with internal IT governance and VLEPSC standards
  • Lead in-depth diagnostics and systems troubleshooting to restore mission-critical law enforcement applications and workstations rapidly
  • Deliver hands-on training to officers and support staff on IT systems, operational procedures, and cyber hygiene practices
  • Supervise and mentor temporary staff, interns, or project assistants assigned to IT projects or support functions
  • Represent Technical Services in interdepartmental rollouts and technology adoption sessions
  • Collaborate with Command Staff and external IT stakeholders (Regent/CBN) to align project goals with regulatory and departmental objectives
  • Lead specialized technology initiatives that support the department's evolving operational footprint and community policing mission
  • Assist in the administration of access control, surveillance, and key tracking systems in support of secure campus-wide police operations
  • Maintain and troubleshoot the GENETIEC system to ensure uninterrupted video surveillance and data retention
  • Oversee field installations, hardware replacements, and preventative maintenance of IT peripherals within the law enforcement environment
