About The Position

Hood Distribution is seeking a motivated and high-performing Technical Service Representative to join their Indianapolis, IN team. The successful candidate will respond to customer concerns related to the application and performance of various coatings technology, with an emphasis on wood coatings in the furniture, millwork, store fixture and custom cabinetry industry. This role involves working closely with the sales team to manage accounts, focusing on technical issues and building key relationships. The representative will instruct customers on proper handling and application of coatings, understand customer needs, and report back to sales and management to develop strategies. They will also provide sales leads, serve as the primary technical contact for product-related issues within their assigned territory, and follow up on outstanding customer issues. Additionally, the role requires monitoring competition, recommending product/service/policy changes, resolving customer complaints, and maintaining professional knowledge through continuous learning and networking.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of Wood Coatings Product knowledge.
  • Solid knowledge of coatings application.
  • Hands-on experience with spray equipment setup, use, and repair.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to set up and repair spray equipment.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license, have a clean driving record, and reliable transportation.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside Sales team members to help manage accounts, with a primary focus on technical issues and developing key relationships.
  • Instruct customers on how to properly handle and apply various coatings products.
  • Develop a deep understanding of customer needs and report back to sales and management to help create a plan to fulfill them.
  • Provide sales leads to Sales team.
  • Serve as customer’s primary technical contact for any product related problems or issues within the assigned territory.
  • Follow up with customers on outstanding issues, complaints, demos, etc.
  • Keep management informed by submitting activity and results reports, such as daily call reports, weekly work plans and monthly and annual territory analysis.
  • Monitor competition by gathering current marketplace information on pricing, products, new products, delivery schedules, merchandising techniques, etc.
  • Recommend changes in products, service and policy by evaluating results and competitive developments.
  • Resolve customer complaints by investigating problems, developing solutions, preparing reports and making recommendations to management.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies.
