About The Position

The Technical Project Manager provides leadership and expertise for project management efforts across ITS. They are responsible for designing, implementing and managing enterprise level project management standards, templates and best practices. They are a leading customer advocate, taking a broad customer perspective, striving to ensure customer success by looking at the big picture of where Product meets Business Operations. This position is eligible for remote work pursuant to Cal Poly’s Telecommuting and Remote Work Guidelines and the CSU policy requiring that all work be performed within the State of California. Information Technology Services (ITS) is a fast-moving team that is responsible for helping Cal Poly achieve academic excellence through developing and implementing learning, teaching, and administrative solutions which leverage technology that align with strategic goals and objectives. With a focus on continuous improvement, ITS fosters innovation, supports continuous learning, and develops people to their full potential. Our team of more than 180 professionals works in a DevOps environment to shape the technology landscape at Cal Poly.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field and four years of relevant experience.
  • Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Applicants for staff and management positions must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Responsibilities

  • Understand stakeholders’ technology challenges and identify opportunities for ITS to better meet those needs through improved solutions, services, or processes.
  • Support efforts to move towards a service organization by establishing ITS wide processes utilizing ITIL, Agile, DevOps and/or lean principles.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance the customer experience, improve service offerings and support continuous improvement.
  • Manage end-to-end performance of information technology projects, ensuring milestones and deliverables are achieved through effective scope management, dependency and critical path planning, resource coordination, and proactive risk and decision management.
  • Represent ITS to campus stakeholders on high profile projects, such as the Workday ERP implementation, serving as a primary point of contact for project communications, coordination and issue escalation.
