Technical Program Manager, Edge Metro Capacity Delivery

Google•Atlanta, GA
•$138,000 - $197,000

About The Position

As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you will lead complex, multidisciplinary projects from start to finish, working with stakeholders to plan requirements, identify risks, manage schedules, and communicate with cross-functional partners. You will explain analyses and recommendations to executives and discuss technical tradeoffs with engineers. For Edge Service Capacity Delivery, you will independently manage the full lifecycle of large-scale network infrastructure migrations, leading cross-functional efforts to safely transition traffic across generations of Google's global internet backbone and edge network. You will address cross-functional challenges, drive legacy network deprecations, adjust program levers such as schedule and resourcing, and use technical judgment to triage network capacity issues, including maintaining Latency SLOs during migrations. You will also use AI/ML technologies to streamline program execution. The Technical Infrastructure team develops and maintains Google's data centers and platforms and operates the networks that support Google's products and user experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience in program management.
  • Experience working in the networking, data center, or telecommunications industry.
  • Experience in program communications, execution, and project planning methodologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in software development, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience resolving technical issues and requests related to the tooling and processes that support engineering execution, particularly within network capacity and deployment constraints.
  • Familiarity with large-scale network transitions, traffic engineering concepts, and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP).
  • Ability to balance immediate tactical project needs, such as tactical capacity preemptions, with the longer-term strategic goals of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage complex network migration lifecycles, safely moving large-scale edge traffic flows to next-generation software-defined network (SDN) architectures.
  • Break infrastructure deployments into discrete phases and proactively manage dependencies, risks, and deliverables for key edge transit and peering infrastructure.
  • Align cross-functional stakeholders, including Site Reliability Engineering and Network Planning teams, and manage expectations throughout the migration lifecycle.
  • Triage technical migration issues across teams, assessing the impact of escalations such as traffic throttling, capacity overflows, and routing latency regressions.
  • Identify deployment velocity improvements using throughput metrics.
  • Use AI to automate tasks and streamline coordination across optical, fiber, and hardware supply chains.
  • Engage in community contributions to sustain organizational culture and operations and make Google a better place to work.
