Technical Program Manager II, Capacity Planning, Data Centers

Google•Atlanta, GA
•$138,000 - $197,000

About The Position

As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you will lead complex, multidisciplinary projects from start to finish. You will work with stakeholders to plan requirements, identify risks, manage schedules, and communicate with cross-functional partners, explaining analyses and recommendations to executives and discussing technical tradeoffs with engineers. This role owns the operational and technical bridge between physical data center constraints and the usable space and power capacity available to Alphabet product areas. Its scope includes fleet-wide capacity governance, feasibility oversight, tooling automation, and cross-functional leadership to maximize infrastructure utilization at scale. The Data Center team designs and operates sophisticated electrical and HVAC systems and is described as a creative, team-oriented group of engineers focused on building and operating powerful data centers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in program management.
  • Experience using data analysis or data center infrastructure management tools to manage physical-to-logical inventory and power audits.
  • Experience with capacity planning in data center environments.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 2 years of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.
  • Experience applying power oversubscription methodologies or capacity modeling specifically for cloud, machine learning, or artificial intelligence infrastructure.
  • Experience deploying, integrating, or configuring spatial, power, or topology simulation tools to automate capacity planning.
  • Experience directing capacity clawbacks, reallocations, or floor reconfigurations to resolve space and power trade-offs across competing platforms and product-area needs.

Responsibilities

  • Own recurring reconciliation of usable power and spatial capacity across global data center clusters so planning systems reflect physical floor reality.
  • Drive power oversubscription and spatial release strategies to reclaim stranded floor spots and maximize the value of existing data center infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with partner teams to work through site-specific space, power, and network reservation constraints and unblock critical machine and network orders.
  • Provide technical sign-off on space, power, and cooling feasibility studies for high-density machine learning and networking deployments.
  • Collaborate with Data Center Fleet Efficiency, Capacity Planning, Power Engineering, Networking, Order Management, and Data Center Operations to align capacity policies and roadmaps.
