Basecamp Research is dedicated to solving major challenges in the life sciences by exploring Beyond Known Biology. Our teams build frontier AI models using BaseData, the world's largest ethically-sourced and globally representative biological dataset. Our Global Research Team collects and curates our own biological data through partnerships with more than 152 organizations in 28 countries, giving its AI access to genetic diversity that doesn't exist for models trained on public database sources. This enables Basecamp Research to design novel protein sequences and biological systems that can accelerate therapeutic research and development.

The Role
We are seeking a highly capable and proactive Technical Program Manager, Science to join our Boston team, embedded within the Chief Scientific Officer’s organization. This role supports our research and data groups across Innovation Science, Genetics and Genotoxicity, helping all these teams work together smoothly and efficiently. You will serve as the connective tissue between departments – driving internal operational efficiency, coordinating cross-team projects, managing key partnerships, and overseeing the tools and operations that our technical teams rely on. You will also have the opportunity to play a leading role in future Alliances with external parties.
In this role, you will focus on optimizing processes, facilitating collaboration, goal setting/tracking and supporting the team in meeting deliverables, as well as liaising with counterparts through Alliances with external partners.
You’ll report directly to the CSO, operating in tight dotted-line alignment with the London-based CTO Program Management office/team. In this capacity, you will ensure that scientific milestones are synchronized with foundational model release cycles. You will need to ensure that our team of scientists and engineers can focus on pioneering research and development. Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in technical operations, program management, or a similar role within a tech-focused or biotech organization. You have a track record of coordinating complex projects and improving operational processes across multiple teams.
• Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines. Proven experience driving projects from idea to completion, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks.
• Excellent communication skills with a talent for working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You can interface comfortably with software engineers, data scientists, biologists, product managers, and external partners, translating needs and keeping everyone in sync.
• Familiarity with life sciences. You don’t need to be in the lab or writing code, but you should be familiar with concepts like data pipelines, reinforcement learning and gene editing well enough to have informed discussions and make effective decisions.
• Experience managing relationships with external vendors or partners, especially in scientific or technical projects. You’re comfortable evaluating services, negotiating contracts, and collaborating with outside organizations to achieve shared objectives.
• A proactive, resourceful, and independent mindset. You take initiative to identify problems or inefficiencies and act on them. You’re the kind of person who spots an issue and rallies the right people to fix it before it escalates.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and rapid change. Our environment evolves quickly – you should thrive in a dynamic setting and be flexible in adjusting plans, while maintaining a positive, can-do attitude.
• High degree of ownership over your work. You care about outcomes and reliably follow through on tasks and take pride in delivering quality results.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s or PhD preferred in computational sciences, applied mathematics, life sciences, physics, chemistry, or bioengineering.
• Experience in the life sciences, biotech, or other R&D-intensive industries. Understanding of domains like genomics, bioinformatics, or drug discovery can help you better support our teams.
• Prior experience at a high-growth startup or in scaling operations for a technical team. Familiarity with the challenges of rapid growth and scaling infrastructure or processes would be a plus.
• Hands-on technical skills are a bonus. Perhaps you’ve written code, managed cloud deployments, or analyzed data in a past life – if so, you’ll have extra empathy for the technical staff you’ll be supporting.

Responsibilities

• Cross-Functional Coordination: Work across data, science and biology teams to plan and execute cross-functional initiatives. Ensure coordination between science and technology teams, especially in the context of generating post-training and fine-tuning data for foundation model development.
• Process Improvement: Identify bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement in our internal workflows. Implement new processes or tools to boost operational efficiency, streamline project delivery, and eliminate friction, all while maintaining agility.
• External Partnership Management: Manage and develop relationships with external technical and scientific partners. This includes coordinating joint projects with research collaborators, universities, technology vendors, and future Alliances with partners and ensuring that these partnerships are productive and aligned with our goals.
• Tooling & Infrastructure Oversight: Oversee the selection, implementation, and optimization of the software tools and platforms used by our technical teams (e.g. project management systems, knowledge bases, data pipeline tools). Make sure our engineers and scientists have the right tools and Partnering with the London team to prevent operational fragmentation or parallel status reporting.
• Operational Strategy & Support: Work closely with the CSO and team leads to prioritize technical operational initiatives and drive strategic improvements. Help plan resource allocation, support budgeting for technical resources, and assist leadership in developing operations strategy that supports our rapid growth.
• Pre-clinical and Regulatory: Partner closely with regulatory, and where relevant, pre-clinical and clinical stakeholders to ensure program plans and deliverables meet compliance and study-readiness requirements - this is a core, hands-on part of the role, not a peripheral one.
• Knowledge Sharing: Promote effective communication and knowledge sharing across teams, enabling feedback loops across key technical teams. Ensure that learnings, best practices, and project updates are documented (in a lightweight way) and accessible, so everyone stays on the same page without excessive bureaucracy.
