About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring customers have continuous access to innovation. The Fleet Remediation Engineering team specializes in retrofit efforts across various engineering disciplines and data center infrastructure designs. This team aligns stakeholders to focus on engineering design quality, implementation, and delivery of complex infrastructure retrofit efforts within the existing AWS data center community. They prioritize projects based on AWS’ Capital Improvement Prioritization Program (CIPP) to achieve maximum business impact and ensure the latest innovations are implemented in the existing fleet for customer benefit. The role involves leading cross-functional and technical teams to drive projects from concept through deployment, developing strategies for retrofitting the data center fleet with the latest mechanical and electrical products, and enhancing systems and tools to streamline project delivery. The Technical Program Manager will also interact with internal and external customers, partners, and suppliers to understand business goals and execute rapidly, delivering high-quality functionality.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of technical product or program management experience
  • 2+ years of software development experience
  • 3+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience
  • Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
  • A Bachelor's Degree or additional technical experience is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in tactical project management of highly technical electrical engineering initiatives, as well as strategic program management.
  • Experience in managing data center infrastructure deployments, R&D projects, and understanding of SQL data bases is a plus.
  • Candidates possessing a background in architecture/design, electrical engineering, data center infrastructure/operations, and/or construction, who have transitioned to a program management discipline will have a distinct advantage.
  • 3+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience

Responsibilities

  • Develop the path and strategy for incorporation of the latest mechanical & electrical engineering solutions to existing data center fleet.
  • Lead cross functional and technical teams to drive projects from concept to requirements definition, feasibility assessments, designs, implementation, testing, and deployment.
  • Evaluate the requirements and actions that enable delivery of the mechanical & electrical programs in our fleet of existing data centers.
  • Prioritize programs within the portfolio based on technical risks and gain alignment on that prioritization.
  • Interact with internal and external customers, partners and suppliers to understand our joint business goals and priorities, and to execute rapidly, delivering high-quality functionality.
  • Support data center retrofit programs that modernize and improve our extensive data center fleet.
  • Develop the strategy for the retrofit of the existing data center fleet with the latest generation of mechanical & electrical products to meet the latest design standards.
  • Lead initiatives associated with the global Fleet Remediation Engineering portfolio, developing or enhancing systems, tools, & mechanisms to streamline project delivery.
  • Manage conceptual development efforts, remote project delivery teams, and facilitate technical whiteboard sessions to troubleshoot project or initiative implementation issues, and remove barriers to project or initiative success.
  • Evaluate project or initiative feasibility, create cross-functional matrix-based teams, establish trust with a variety of stakeholders across multiple time zones, eliminate non-value-add activity, design solutions, remove blockers, and find creative ways to accelerate project or initiative delivery.
  • Be fully competent in a variety of project management tools, methodologies and techniques for all phases of the project lifecycle and exhibit demonstrated proficiency in core project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, resources, quality and risk management, reporting and metric development/tracking.
  • Interact with different teams responsible for engineering, development, finance, integration, and operation of these complex capital improvement programs and affiliated systems.
  • Prioritize activities to support and understand the projects’ status, solve problems and blockers, and focus on the actions that are most impactful for program success.
