About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. This role is part of a diverse team of engineers, specialists, and experts working on challenging problems to maintain the cloud. As an Amazon Fleet Remediation Project Design Mechanical Engineer, you will lead design projects in operational data centers to remediate issues, upgrade infrastructure, or add new services. You will be the primary engineering resource for these projects, providing lifecycle support from design through implementation. Your expertise will be used to own designs for data center upgrades, design solutions for adding infrastructure or capacity, improve availability, and increase sustainability. You will also perform design and equipment submittal reviews, interface with various internal and external teams, work on concurrent projects, act as a technical subject matter expert, and support construction, commissioning, operations, and turnover. This role is key to Amazon's vision of being the world's most customer-centric company, fitting out data centers to meet evolving customer needs as the fleet expands.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities experience
  • 4+ years of commissioning experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience in industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation or oil and gas facilities
  • Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities
  • Experience in commissioning
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer License
  • Experience with building codes and regulations for your region
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
  • Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
  • Strong Engineering Judgement and are able to provide design and recommendations despite uncertainty
  • Detail and data oriented with familiarity with design/construction processes
  • Experience managing engineering projects and engineering consultants.
  • Build trust and relationships with different stakeholders (e.g., Operations, Commissioning, Construction and Design)
  • Manage design and as built drawings and documents
  • Prepare and present progress reports to all relevant stakeholders
  • Be inclined to get into the field to see things up close

Responsibilities

  • Own the design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions which add data center infrastructure, capacity, improve availability, and/or increase sustainability.
  • Perform design and equipment submittal review for Data Centers in your region.
  • Interface with internal and external data center design engineering team, server hardware team, environmental health and safety team, field engineering, and controls engineering to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
  • Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
  • Act as a technical subject matter expert for your given discipline during new remediation projects.
  • Support construction, commissioning, operations, and turnover.
