About The Position

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. As an Amazon Fleet Remediation Project Design Electrical Engineer, you will lead design projects in operational data centers, that remediate issues, upgrade our existing infrastructure or add new services. You will be the 'go to' engineering resource for these projects and will provide lifecycle support from design through implementation. You will use your (mechanical or electrical) expertise to own the design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions which add data center infrastructure, capacity, improve availability, and/or increase sustainability. You will prepare/review short circuit coordination studies and maintain the software models to match as-built site conditions. You will perform design and equipment submittal review for Data Centers in your region. You will interface with internal and external data center design engineering team, server hardware team, environmental health and safety team, field engineering, and controls engineering to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered. You will work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions. You will act as technical subject matter expert for your given discipline during new remediation projects. You will prioritize your activities to support data center safety, remediation projects, capacity, and availability, focusing on the actions that are most impactful. You will have the opportunity to work on projects locally and globally. We have an immediate opening for a Fleet Remediation Project Design Electrical Engineer in the IAD Cluster. As a Fleet Remediation Project Design Electrical Engineer, you will be leading projects to reduce power utilization and increase capacity of our data centers to meet ever-evolving customer needs as we continue expanding our fleet to hyper-scale. Each day you will interact with different teams responsible for all aspects of the data centers. You will prioritize your activities to closely collaborate with capacity planning & delivery teams to identify opportunities to increase capacity utilization and develop designs for projects to unblock the additional capacity. You will have the opportunity to work on projects globally and lead first of kind designs for innovative solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission critical facilities, especially data centers

  • Are detail and data oriented with familiarity with design/construction processes
  • Have experience managing engineering projects and engineering consultants.

  • Prepare and present progress reports to all relevant stakeholders
  • Be inclined to get into the field to see things up close
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
  • Knowledge of commercial or industrial power systems or mechanical systems
  • Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
  • Experience using a variety of web-based and other software tools for calculation and data processing
