About The Position

O’Keefe Media Group (OMG), an independent media organization founded by investigative journalist James O’Keefe, is seeking a hands-on Technical Operations Engineer. OMG produces investigative reporting, undercover journalism, and original programming focused on institutional accountability and government and corporate misconduct, supported by an in-house media team and nationwide citizen journalists. This is a sole-technologist, individual-contributor role responsible for maintaining the organization’s websites, revenue systems, cybersecurity, office technology, production facilities, and investigative field equipment. The role requires urgency, practical troubleshooting, discretion, and end-to-end ownership rather than staff or vendor management. The position is based on-site in West Palm Beach, Florida, with travel up to 10%. Some after-hours and weekend work is required.

Requirements

  • Four or more years of hands-on IT, website, or systems experience, preferably in a solo or small-team environment.
  • Experience administering WordPress or similar platforms, with working HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and form/plugin troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with HubSpot or a comparable CRM and platform integrations using APIs, webhooks, Zapier, or Make.
  • Knowledge of firewalls, VLANs, Wi-Fi, VPN, DNS, and email authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC).
  • Experience with Google Workspace and/or Microsoft 365, macOS, Windows, and mobile device management.
  • Practical knowledge of MFA, endpoint protection, encryption, backups, and access controls.
  • Ability to troubleshoot cameras, audio systems, and small electronic devices.
  • Strong judgment, confidentiality, and responsiveness, with the ability to resolve urgent issues independently.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% and work occasional evenings or weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with donation platforms such as Anedot, WinRed, Givebutter, or Stripe, and e-commerce platforms such as Shopify.
  • Livestream production experience with OBS, vMix, StreamYard, or Restream.
  • Forensic data recovery experience.
  • Experience in journalism, political organizations, nonprofits, or startups.
  • Relevant certifications such as Network+, Security+, or CCNA.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain websites, hosting, CMS platforms, plugins, performance, uptime, and security.
  • Build or update landing pages, donation pages, and forms rapidly, including for same-day campaigns.
  • Maintain HubSpot properties, forms, lists, workflows, permissions, and records.
  • Maintain integrations among website, CRM, donation, merchandise, email, and analytics systems using native tools, APIs, webhooks, or automation platforms.
  • Ensure donations, sales, and signups are captured correctly with source attribution, and identify and resolve failures quickly.
  • Maintain GA4, pixels, UTMs, and conversion events for reliable marketing and revenue reporting.
  • Enforce MFA, password management, least-privilege access, and phishing defenses.
  • Securely administer Google Workspace and/or Microsoft 365 accounts and promptly revoke access for departing employees.
  • Keep Mac, Windows, and mobile endpoints patched, encrypted, protected, and remotely manageable.
  • Securely store and transmit sensitive source information and investigative material with restricted access.
  • Maintain tested backups and practical recovery procedures for critical systems.
  • Keep firewalls, switches, Wi-Fi, VPN, internet connectivity, and VoIP reliable.
  • Deploy, repair, and retire workstations, phones, printers, and peripherals; maintain a practical technology-asset inventory.
  • Prepare equipment and access for new hires before their first day and promptly complete offboarding.
  • Resolve technology issues directly and quickly, escalating specialized work when appropriate.
  • Keep podcast studios, livestream equipment, editing workstations, storage, and meeting-room AV production-ready.
  • Prepare, test, and maintain body-worn and concealed cameras, audio recorders, batteries, and media.
  • Provide journalists with equipment guidance and securely offload and preserve captured footage.
  • Assess failed storage media and restore recoverable data when feasible.
  • Evaluate and recommend new production and field equipment based on operational needs.
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps and keep documentation current.
  • Communicate operational risks, technology costs, and replacement needs early with clear recommendations.
  • Respond in a timely manner to urgent issues during live stories, campaigns, evenings, or weekends.
  • Engage external specialists when necessary while retaining internal ownership of outcomes.
  • Travel up to 10% and work occasional evenings or weekends.
