This role supports field and laboratory operations in conducting the tasks involved in viticulture and horticulture research within DPIRD Agriculture. We are looking for an individual who can provide technical input into temperate perennial crop field trials in various locations, including the establishment and the maintenance with minimal supervision. The role involves undertaking soil and plant measurements, maintaining trial instrumentation devices and field equipment, and taking plant and soil samples for analysis. Accurate collection and recording of research data and information are crucial for ensuring consistency and quality, as well as sample evaluation from these research trials. The position also includes undertaking research support activities in the laboratory, such as preparation and analysis of plant tissue and soil samples, and recording data and information from fruit. Responsibilities extend to preparing and providing field and laboratory procedures, contributing to reporting requirements, and operating and maintaining laboratory equipment to required standards. Maintaining the laboratory to provide a safe and efficient work environment is also key. The role requires contributing to the maintenance of work health and safety (WHS) and quality management system (QMS) databases (i.e. standard operating procedures (SOP), safe work method statements(SWMS), etc.) and complying with work standards according to the level of appointment in the Technical Staff Merit Progression Guidelines.
