About The Position

The Technical Communicator is a liaison between the dealership and Caterpillar Engineering for product problems and technical information. This position provides support for all dealership departments and external customers. This position provides technical support for all allied products that we represent.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Ability to become MSHA and OSHA certified for working at mine sites.
  • Minimum of 5-years dealership experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Level 1 Failure Analysis or equivalent.
  • Proficient at Electronic Technician (data logger, event recording, and diagnostics).
  • Able to troubleshoot engines, transmissions, hydraulic and electronic syst
  • Knowledgeable in Caterpillar and Dealership warranty claims.
  • In depth knowledge of fluid sampling requirements and test results and analysis.
  • Proficient in reading schematics (i.e., electrical and hydraulic).
  • Proficient in International Standards Organization programs and symbols
  • Ability to read and interpret blue print drawings
  • Proficient at using Service Information Systems (network, web and stand-alone versions).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite

Nice To Haves

  • 10-years of heavy equipment mechanic experience, consisting of two years as a field mechanic or equivalent experience and demonstrated knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of proprietary computer systems such as Data Base Systems a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support the operation departments and external customers as the company technical expert. Solve critical product problems through diagnosis/repair, personal knowledge/experience and manufacturer engineering data.
  • Provide failure analysis reports to dealership, Caterpillar and customers.
  • Track and report product problems to sales and Caterpillar.
  • Create and distribute technical service related memos.
  • Assist service managers in making customer, dealer, and manufacturer policy settlement decisions.
  • Direct, coordinate, perform and report on test iron and field follow projects, failure and reusability analysis reporting, parts salvage and development, SIMS and Partners in Quality programs.
  • Investigate and report on product accidents to the company and manufacturer.
  • Create on-machine solutions through testing and research.
  • Investigate, collect data and communicate with business unit engineers and district rep. on Caterpillar’s Continuous Product Improvement process.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures and practices. Must use all safety equipment necessary and report any unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Attend and participate in Failure Analysis and relevant technical conferences.
  • Provide independent judgement and discretion to customers (both internal and external) regarding key component failures, repairs, and analysis.
  • Exercises clear judgement on advanced repairs to prevent or further prohibit excess loss to the customer.
