About The Position

Holt of California is a Caterpillar dealer that sells and services construction equipment, forklifts, and power-generation equipment. The Technical Communicator assists technicians, customers, and administrative staff with technical questions and issues related to Power Systems. The position is located in West Sacramento, California. The role requires a strong Caterpillar technical background in electric power-generation systems and industrial engines. Marine or petroleum experience may be considered equivalent to industrial-engine knowledge. The Technical Communicator provides technical support, assists with warranty and service administration, helps prepare technician training, researches repair status, communicates customer and job changes, and supports customer quotes. The role also documents product problems and requests technical assistance from factory engineering.

Requirements

Strong Caterpillar technical background in electric power-generation systems and industrial engines; marine or petroleum experience may be considered equivalent to industrial-engine knowledge.
High school diploma or GED, and/or five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with Caterpillar component rebuilding and reuse guidelines.
Experience and thorough understanding of diesel- and gas-fueled engines, including controls, fuel, lubrication, and cooling systems.
Understanding of AC power generation, control, and distribution, including power output, power factor, circulating current, and generator harmonic measurement and calculation.
Understanding of transfer switches and automatic engine-control logic and operation.
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
Ability to perform basic arithmetic and calculate rates, ratios, and percentages.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and work with abstract and concrete variables.
Professional and business-like conduct.
Computer experience.
Valid California driver's license and a clean DMV report.
Forklift Operator Safety Certificate.
Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including regularly lifting or moving up to 50 pounds, frequently lifting or moving up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lifting or moving more than 100 pounds.

Responsibilities

Provide technical assistance on Power Systems issues, including industrial engines and electric power-generation systems.
Work directly with technicians and supervisors to address technical needs.
Work with Caterpillar parts and service representatives on technical assistance and goodwill product support.
Assist supervisors and management with warranty administration, service letters, and extended service coverage contracts.
Help develop technician training schedules and provide training on Caterpillar SISWEB/TMI and other web-based dealer systems.
Research and investigate repair-status information for customers, technicians, and department employees.
Request technical assistance from factory engineering and document and report product problems.
Assist with preparing customer quotes as required.
Proactively communicate and document customer-related changes, including scheduling, job status, and cost estimates or flat rates.
Perform other assigned duties.
