About The Position

To assist the instructor in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.

Requirements

Graduation from high school or high school equivalency certificate.
Hold or be eligible for a Rhode Island Cosmetology Instructor’s license
Be of good character
Completion of a Teacher Assistant Pre-Employment Training Program approved by the RI Department of Education (RIDE).
Meet one of the following three requirements: Completed at least two years (48 credits) of study at an institution of higher education; or Obtained an associate’s degree or higher; or Met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate through a formal state or local academic assessment: knowledge and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics; or reading, writing, and mathematics readiness
Ability to establish professional rapport with students and teachers.
Must be prepared to demonstrate a proficiency in current skills and knowledge of cosmetology.
Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, previous experience, and the interview process.

Nice To Haves

Four (4) years of successful salon experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

To assist the teacher/director in all areas of classroom and lab activities, including a variety of activities as prescribed by the teacher.
To render services as required.
To assist with the education process, present materials, teacher-directed activities, and operation of lab equipment.
To work with students in the Cosmetology program under the teacher’s supervision.
To collaboratively plan visits to industry for NACTC students to participate in career awareness activities.
Performs all other duties as assigned by the teacher and/or Director of Newport Area Career & Technical Center.
