About The Position

This position reports to the Fleet Supervisor - Mechanical. This position involves planning, prioritizing, scheduling, and coordinating preventive maintenance, inspections, and repair programs for the City of Moncton’s fleet. Work requires applying technical knowledge in fleet maintenance operations to review user-reported issues, diagnose vehicle and equipment problems, prepare detailed work orders, and estimate service requirements. The role also involves maintaining accurate fleet records, monitoring maintenance progress, and coordinating resources, external services, and communications with user departments to ensure timely, cost-effective, and reliable fleet operations.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Two-year post-secondary diploma from a recognized institution in mechanical engineering or a graduate from a recognized Trade or Technical School in the field of Mechanics/Welding/Metal Fabrication.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in an automotive or systems environment with hands-on use of a Fleet Management System (Assetworks).
  • One (1) year of direct supervisory experience in a formal supervisor/lead role (i.e., supervising staff), with demonstrated ability to plan, organize, assign, and direct work and resources.
  • Demonstrated experience in customer service.
  • Ability to function in English at an Intermediate+ (2+) level or higher.
  • Ability to lead and implement goal-setting/results-oriented work methods.
  • Knowledgeable in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Intermediate level ability to use Microsoft Office programs such as Teams, Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Proficient in the use of the computerized fleet management system.
  • Sound working knowledge of vehicle and equipment repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Good communication skills.
  • A high degree of initiative and judgment is required in performing duties.
  • Knowledgeable of computer applications in the field of equipment management and fleet management: (Fleet Management System).
  • Ability to write technical reports.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where internal customers are working to deadlines and maintenance and repair are crucial to the delivery of services.
  • Capable of working with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to organize and supervise staff.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, assign, and supervise the work of subordinates.

Nice To Haves

  • In the event this competition poses difficulty in recruiting candidates who meet the direct supervisory experience requirement, consideration may be given to candidates with a minimum of one (1) year of experience being a team lead/project manager dealing with clients, contractors and staff assignments to ensure quality, cost and schedule are met.

Responsibilities

  • Organizing, prioritizing, assigning, and supervising the work of subordinates.
