About The Position

Amazon Data Services, Inc. is seeking a Tech Ops Engineer II for multiple positions in Chicago, IL. This role involves utilizing tools for bid analysis and cost management, managing third-party Quantity Surveyor vendors, and ensuring accurate vendor invoices. The engineer will collaborate with global, multi-disciplinary teams to communicate cost control goals effectively. Key responsibilities include identifying Value Engineering opportunities, assessing project risks and financial impacts, updating historical data, defining and tracking cost performance metrics, analyzing construction vendor proposals using AWS benchmark data, creating bid leveling documents, and providing cost analysis for schedule and design variations. The role also requires validating final award values, schedules, and scopes, validating change cost impacts, implementing and maintaining cost control, change management, and performance reporting systems, supporting project close-out and final payments, and delivering results for multiple projects with competing priorities. Domestic travel up to 30% may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field followed by 5 years of progressively responsible post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or a related occupation. In the alternative, employer will accept a Master’s degree or foreign equivalent degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • 2 years in Construction cost control, with specific knowledge of electrical, mechanical or ASC cost elements.
  • 2 years in Data Center or other mission critical construction environments
  • 2 years in Construction management
  • 2 years in Reviewing and justifying budgets
  • 2 years in Communicating estimate strategy to construction and nonconstruction professionals
  • 2 years of Experience with estimating software such as CostX, Cubit, Onscreen takeoff, Timberline and Bluebeam, as well as an MS Office Suite 'power user'.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize tools and templates for bid analysis and cost management.
  • Engage and manage third-party Quantity Surveyor vendors. Ensure accurate and timely vendor invoices.
  • Work seamlessly with multi-disciplinary teams globally, and communicate cost control goals effectively to all stakeholders.
  • Identify and quantify Value Engineering opportunities in design, and assess project risks and their financial impacts.
  • Update historical data repository. Define and track cost performance metrics.
  • Analyze Construction vendor proposals using AWS benchmark data. Create accurate bid leveling documents. Provide cost analysis of schedule and design variations.
  • Validate final award value, schedule and scope based on contract documents. Validate change cost impacts.
  • Implement, maintain and execute cost control, change management, and performance reporting.
  • Support project close-out and final payments.
  • Deliver results for multiple projects with competing priorities.
