About The Position

First Citizens Bank is seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Technical Lead to shape its Consumer and Business Digital Banking platform. The role sits at the intersection of software engineering, architecture, platform strategy, and delivery execution. The Technical Lead will guide multiple engineering teams building modern customer experiences using composable frontend frameworks, cloud-native technologies, API-first architectures, event-driven systems, and engineering excellence practices. This is a remote role available only to candidates hired in Arizona, North Carolina, or Texas.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and 8 years of experience, or a high school diploma or GED/equivalent and 12 years of experience in technical work in application development, server administration, information security, or engineering.
• Cloud-native architectures and distributed systems.
• ReactJS, React Native, TypeScript, and microfrontends.
• Native mobile development practices and SDK integrations.
• Java, Spring Boot, APIs, and microservices.
• Kafka and event-driven architectures.
• Kubernetes, Terraform, and Infrastructure as Code.
• CI/CD, GitOps, and DevSecOps.
• Identity and access management, including OAuth2, OIDC, and SAML.
• Observability, OpenTelemetry, SRE, and platform reliability.

Nice To Haves

• 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• 5+ years of technical leadership experience in banking, fintech, payments, or regulated industries.
• Experience modernizing large-scale customer-facing digital platforms.
• Strong communication and executive stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical direction across multiple Agile product teams delivering customer-facing digital banking capabilities.
• Serve as the primary technical advisor for engineering managers, architects, product leaders, and delivery teams.
• Drive delivery of scalable, resilient, secure, and highly available banking solutions.
• Guide technical roadmaps, platform evolution, and modernization initiatives.
• Conduct architecture, design, and code reviews.
• Mentor engineers and foster engineering ownership and accountability.
• Resolve complex technical challenges spanning multiple domains and teams.
• Champion API-first, event-driven, and domain-oriented architectures.
• Design microservices-based solutions and integration strategies.
• Define target-state capabilities across identity, customer onboarding, customer profile, payments, notifications, entitlements, and digital engagement.
• Partner with enterprise architecture teams to establish long-term platform standards.
• Drive adoption of DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and SRE practices.
• Establish engineering metrics focused on quality, stability, velocity, and customer outcomes.
• Improve reliability, scalability, resiliency, and operational excellence.
