Team Member, Petsense
About The Position
This position is responsible for interacting with customers and team members, supporting selling initiatives and performing assigned tasks, while providing legendary customer service. Team Members are required to perform a combination of duties including operating the cash register/computer, merchandise recovery, participating in the freight process, executing plan-o-gram procedures, assembling merchandise, performing janitorial duties, executing price changes/markdowns, assisting customers with loading purchases, and ensuring the safety and well-being of live animals by sanitizing and maintaining holding tanks and caring for their food, bedding, and habitat. Team members may also be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- No experience required.
- Must be able to read, write and count accurately.
- Ability to constantly operate store equipment such as computer, cash register, and other store equipment.
- Ability to read, write, and count accurately to complete all documentation.
- Ability to utilize strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with team members and customers.
- Ability to process information / merchandise through the point-of-sale system.
- Ability to successfully complete all required training and certification.
- Lifting 50+ pounds
- Ability to move and transfer merchandise, weighing up to 50 pounds, throughout the store.
- Ability to push and pull merchandise up to 2,000 pounds with the assistance of proper material handling equipment (e.g. pallet jack, dolly or U-boat).
- Ability to successfully complete all required training.
Nice To Haves
- Retail experience and/or pet/live animal knowledge is strongly preferred.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, but not required.
- Pet/Live Animal, pet food, pet product knowledge is strongly preferred.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to resolve issues ethically and with minimal conflict.
Responsibilities
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Work scheduled shifts and have the ability to work varied hours, days, nights, weekends and overtime as dictated by business needs.

- Recovery of merchandise
- Participate in freight process
- Execute to completion Plan-o-gram procedures (merchandising, sets, and resets)
- Assemble merchandise
- Perform janitorial duties
- Execute price changes/markdowns
- Assist customers with loading purchases
- Ensure the safety and well-being of live animals. Sanitize and maintain holding tanks and care for live animals as required
- Handle and care for all live animals including their food, bedding and habitat
- Complete all documentation associated with any of the above job duties
