About The Position

Responsible for leading manufacturing personnel to safely machine and fabricate quality parts on time within the estimated hours. Serves as a technical resource for the team. Ensures that the team objectives are met, including project, cost, quality and safety related factors.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirement of High School Diploma or GED; with additional Trade School / Vocational School education, some college education or relevant job experience not less than three years in either machining or fabrication.
  • Must be highly competent in the trade responsible for leading.
  • Five years minimum manufacturing experience.
  • Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to floor.
  • Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Near acuity and accommodation are required for reading machine dial gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts and machinery.
  • Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action.
  • Ability to communicate with employees.
  • Employees will operate in compliance of all recognized standards that Major Tool adheres to (such as AS9100, ISO 9000), including all supporting policies and procedures.
  • Attendance is an essential job function.

  • Previous supervisory experience is desired, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team to produce quality parts, on time, at the processed hours.
  • Lead the team to maintain their area, according to 6S and Lean Manufacturing standards.
  • Play an integral part in the hiring, training and development of team members.
  • Ensure team members are held accountable to performance expectations, and initiate appropriate performance feedback and discipline according to company policy.
  • Conduct planning of jobs.
  • Attend Production Control meetings as scheduled.
  • Attend pre-release planning meetings.
  • Trouble-shoot shop floor issues.
  • Coordinate programming preparation with the programmer (machining teams only).
  • Review and approve each CNC program edit request submitted. (machining teams only).
  • Review Priority Dispatch Lists (PDLs) and assign personnel to support the plan.
  • Attend job release meetings to advise engineer and gain advance information about upcoming jobs.
  • Provide daily email carryover to off-shift supervisors and workcenters. Carryover shall dictate what each workcenter is expected to work on as well as provide crucial information obtained during that shift. (Machining TL’s only).
  • Determine if overtime is needed to support the plan, get overtime approval from department manager.
  • Advise and assist personnel with technical support.
  • Conduct regular team meetings.
  • Evaluate skill level and performance of personnel.
  • Investigate any anomalies – Non-Conformances (NC’s), job overruns, accidents, incidents, define and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Provide any support to team members to help them do their job – material, supplies, instructions, etc.
  • Review and approve each team member’s charged labor to ensure the time charged to jobs is being reported accurately.
