About The Position

As a CNC Machining Team Lead, you’ll combine technical expertise with leadership skills to guide a team of machinists across all levels. You’ll oversee daily operations, ensure production goals are met, and foster a collaborative environment focused on safety, quality, and continuous improvement. You’ll also serve as the primary liaison between your team and engineering, quality, and management. This role involves setting up and operating 3 to 5 axis CNC machine tools, making offsets, testing safety features, and operating multiple production machines. You will verify product conformance through dimensional and visual inspections using various precision measuring tools. The role also includes providing training and guidance to machinists, understanding G&M-code programming, setting up complex CNC machines, and making process recommendations. You will use proper material handling techniques, maintain product specifications, follow work instructions, document measurements, use tool setters, and generate maintenance work orders. A thorough understanding of the Silfex Quality Management System is required, along with active contribution to lean initiatives and collaboration with engineering and quality control. You will serve as acting lead in the absence of your supervisor and perform other job duties as assigned. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required
  • 6 years of experience operating a CNC machine, operating machinery, or manufacturing/production technical support
  • 1 year of leadership experience
  • Must have machine control experience
  • Understanding of input tool geometry
  • Ability to troubleshoot on an intermediate level
  • Knowledge of 5S and Lean manufacturing concepts
  • Capable of applying and teaching standard practices and techniques within their work
  • Must be fluent in G&M code
  • Attention to detail is required
  • Must be a quality and safety minded leader
  • Must possess basic proficiency in operating computers, including navigating software and web-based platforms
  • Must have strong math skills, particularly trigonometry
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of Silfex experience preferred
  • Associate degree or diploma from a Technical School or Trade School
  • Trouble shooting G&M code
  • Previous experience as a team lead
  • Knowledge of GD&T
  • Maintenance experience / Collaboration with maintenance department
  • Experience machining Si, glass or other brittle material

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate 3 to 5 axis CNC machine tools to accurately machine parts per work instructions and manufacturing plan.
  • Make work and tool offsets as needed.
  • Test safety features of machine during set up.
  • Operate multiple production machines.
  • Verify conformance of in-process and final products through dimensional and visual inspections using a variety of precision measuring tools and equipment, including micrometers, indicators, calipers, profilometers, Contracers, and CMMs.
  • Provide training and guidance to machinists.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand G&M-code programming.
  • Capability of setting up complex CNC machines and making modifications and/or recommendations to process engineering team.
  • Use proper material handling techniques to ensure quality of product and condition of equipment.
  • Maintain product specifications by performing accurate measurements, detecting malfunctions, and replacing worn tools, while consistently adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Follow work instructions, setup sheets and other production related information.
  • Properly document measurements and visual observations by completing production and quality logs.
  • Use tool setter and tool dresser to set tooling geometry.
  • Generate maintenance work orders for repair of CNC machines and equipment.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of the Silfex Quality Management System and properly apply Quality Procedures and Operating Procedures as appropriate.
  • Actively contribute to lean initiatives by identifying and providing suggestions on areas for improvement.
  • Effectively apply lean concepts and tools within the value stream.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality control, metrology and/or programming to resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Serve as acting lead in the absence of direct supervisor.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.
