About The Position

The APH Reinsurance Claims Team Lead oversees the claims management process, ensuring efficient and accurate handling of Asbestos, Pollution and Hazard (APH) reinsurance claims from notification through closure. The role leads claims managers handling complex portfolios that can involve multiple parties and litigation, and requires leadership, analytical capability, industry knowledge, and a strong understanding of reinsurance products and processes, particularly casualty claims. The Team Lead guides the team’s day-to-day work and development, manages complex and potentially high-profile claims, coordinates client audits, and works with internal and external stakeholders. The role also maintains claims data quality, coordinates treaty reporting requirements, and analyzes performance indicators. The APH Reinsurance Claims Team is part of an industry-leading organization. Its experts formulate case management and litigation strategies and collaborate with senior management, underwriting, client markets, and actuarial teams to provide portfolio insights. The team focuses on asbestos, environmental, health hazard, and other latent exposures, and also supports audits and deal-team pricing. The position follows a hybrid work model, with an expectation of at least three days per week in the office. It is not eligible for full-time remote work, and visa sponsorship is not available. The estimated base salary range is $128,000 to $213,000. Compensation may depend on factors including location, role scope, qualifications, experience, education, and employer budget.

Requirements

At least 10 years of related experience in the reinsurance or insurance market.
Solid managerial experience with proven decision-making and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of insurance and reinsurance products, including underwriting claims, accounting, finance, and associated processes.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong computer skills, including PowerPoint, Word, Access, Excel, and Power BI.
Willingness to learn new tools and skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with high-level management at client companies and internally.
Ability to think and act inclusively and strategically, with prior success in cross-functional collaboration.
Skills in claims management, general insurance and claims resolution, casualty insurance or reinsurance, regulatory compliance and risk assessment, leadership and strategic planning, negotiation and communication, and business acumen.

Oversee day-to-day operations of the APH Reinsurance claims team to ensure work is completed efficiently and in accordance with guidelines, procedures, and quality standards.
Manage complex reinsurance claims, including analyzing and determining liability, verifying claims against contracts, and resolving disputes.
Coordinate claims audits of clients.
Handle large or potentially large losses, losses involving reputational risk, and losses with potential or actual pending litigation.
Liaise with clients, brokers, underwriters, reserving, and analytic support so lessons and insights from claims are shared.
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders through meaningful collaboration.
Maintain high data-quality standards and accurate reinsurance claims documentation.
Assess and coordinate treaty reporting requirements with Reinsurance Operations and IT.
Accurately analyze key performance indicators.
