About The Position

The Claims Expert will manage complex reinsurance claims and support the formulation, development, and implementation of reinsurance account management and claims disposition strategies. Within the Asbestos, Pollution, and Health (APH) team, the role conducts case and coverage analysis and actively contributes to reinsurance claim resolution and disposition. The position also oversees and steers a claims portfolio to support profitability, while developing client relationships and collaborating with internal stakeholders. The Claims Expert works with senior management, underwriting, client markets, and actuarial colleagues to provide portfolio insights, identify trends, and analyze potential large exposures. This is a hybrid position with an expectation of working in the office at least three days per week. It is not eligible for full-time telework and does not offer visa sponsorship.

Requirements

At least ten years of claims or legal experience, with strong casualty experience.
Experience interpreting insurance contracts and coverage.
Ability to manage a complex portfolio using critical analysis and innovative strategic thinking.
Ability to meet deliverables, implement plans, and conduct analysis.
Excellent writing skills and proficiency in Excel.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, including the ability to collaborate and manage competing priorities.
Ability to partner effectively with senior management, clients, lawyers, and mediators.
General knowledge of or exposure to other insurance disciplines, such as contract wording, accounting, and underwriting.
Passion for identifying areas of improvement and implementing them.
Ability to lead by example in a performance culture that fosters innovation and continuous improvement.
Data analytics skills and desire for further growth.

Responsibilities

Manage complex reinsurance claims, including analyzing and determining liability, verifying claims against contracts, and resolving disputes.
Negotiate claims disposition and participate in mediation and/or arbitration.
Participate in audits and provide reserving insights to assist deal teams with pricing.
Create and manage cost-effective litigation budgets.
